Great tasting food and large variety of choices. One of the best Chinese restaurants in Chicago metro area. In comparison to other places, prices did not go up too much here and portion sizes are pretty large.
Website accepts orders when they are closed. One time kitchen was so backed up, it took 90 mins for take out. Food is good, when you finally get it. Recommend ordering from one of their other locations. Confusion in Chinatown is high.

i have a family of 7 we came across this restaurant a few years ago and decided to try it out we went in and they seated us immediately which was great the service was great we had no problem BACK THEN so we came back a few years later for a birthday dinner it was only four of us then we came in and stood for a few minutes before someone seated us i knew from the way the lady seated us it was gonna be a problem she sat us down and disappeared the look on her face when she came back said it all when she finally came to take our order we asked questions about the food considering we’ve only been their once and it was years ago she looked angry she spoke with an attitude but i kept my cool considering it was for my son we ordered our food and they give you a bowl of rice but we couldn’t eat cause just like another person wrote we didnt get any silverware we had to ask someone else for forks and he didnt want to give us any it took a few minutes to get them it wasnt busy at that time but she kept ignoring us we were patient (visually) i get my food it was nothing i asked for the only thing they got right was the spicy chicken my son ordered so i left my food there and didn’t eat we only saw our host twice throughout the whole meal she made sure she stayed invisible to us but she gave ALL the attention to other customers who came in after us she showed ALL her teeth when she smiles at them we were looking like that cant be the same person we had cause didnt get any of that when she FINALLY came back over to us we said we were done now anyone that goes out to dinner knows that they dont clear your table until you leave or get the check i kid you not once i said i was done she IMMEDIATELY swooped up that bowl of rice up and took it away leaving the rest of the food on the table now seeing that only leads me to believe they recycle food cause we didnt touch it at all and also lets me know they were watching but ignoring us at the same time so all in all my husband talked to the manager and told hime she did a wonderful job and excellent service(sarcasm at its finest) we tipped handsomely only to make her feel like a jerk with the compliment knowing she gave very poor service fyi we saw the tips she was given from the ones she have all the attention and smiles to which was $3-$5 max now i know people might ask why would you tip if you got poor service and the reason is to leave a great impression on them so they’ll look for you to come back but we will NEVER patronize that business again NEVER once we left it was explained to me on how they feel about us and let me just say all the ones that got attention where not our complexion just sayin but anywhere hope you read between the lines and enjoy yourselves have an awesome day

Food was delicious but was a little more expensive than other restaurants we tried in Chinatown. I would certainly eat here again. The Chefs special chicken (Chongqing spicy chicken was very good)
Lao Sze Chuan has won a lot of accolades, and proudly boasts itself as one of the greatest restaurants in Chicago Chinatown. Did it live up to the hype?Just about. The meat dishes delivered very well on taste, texture and flavor- the veggie dishes were a bit more typical.I’m reading a lot of reviews and a few of them give praise and a few of them are saying their food was chewy and flavourless- and while I can’t speak for anyone else but myself, I would wholeheartedly agree that this restaurant is very good! I don’t think you could go wrong by coming here.

first off me and me fiancé stopped in because the sign said it was the best chinese in the USA so i'm like cap let's see. It indeed was not. The service was horrible. I received the wrong order and they never checked on us walking past us not once, not twice, hell not even THREE times but 10 times never seeing if we were okay. in the end we just wanted the bill and my item i ordered off. when we didn't leave a tip, she asked, "no tip?" and i responded no and she continued with why.... the reason why is because you don't care and neither do I heffa
