The Newark Nook is one of the more famous speakeasy's on Chicago's Northwest side. While it is most famous for being Milton S. Hershey's preferred watering hole when he visited Chicago for the 1893 World's Fair, it was also the scene of several gangland shootings in the 1920's, and was built on the site of a civil war battle where famed wild Buffalo hunter, Col. Michael Gallen, was killed. Today the bar is mostly known for its extensive cocktail list and secret lounge area. The food is prepared by a former James Beard award winning chef but is a bit too fancy to my taste, but everything is very nice. The Colonel Gallen Buffalo Nachos are stellar and include a commemorative plate that can be taken home.

Cute little neighborhood dive bar. Lots of cops. Friendly bartender. Strong and really affordable drinks. I felt welcome my first time there even though it seems like a place with lots of regulars.

Most ppl that walk into the Nook, only see it as a neighborhood bar. However the Nook isn't just any ordinary bar, The Nook has been around for 92 years. It is one of the few grandfathered bars in the entire city of Chicago that sits in the middle of a neighborhood. A well-established business with almost 100 years worth of History. Even though the Nook has transferred owners over the years and most recently it's new owners a pair of Chicago natives, that have kept the Chicago and neighborhood establishment thriving with locals, out of towners and more importantly family and friends. Two things I can always guarantee when I visit are, Endless Laughs with Great company and best of all Ice Cold beer!!. Keep up the great work guys. Special shout out to Mike and TC. Also my favorite bartender Marcel.

This gem is tucked away on Newark (obviously). Love the simple spot. And they have Mallort, of course.
