Stopped by Sawada Coffee on our way to visit my friend. We were both craving tea and this was the closest in the area we were in at the time. I ordered the military latte due to he overwhelming amount of reviews. It was a good grade of matcha however it was just ok for me. The location is upstairs from the main area were there is a bar and bbq. The atmosphere is nice and they have multiple TVs that are great for game days. Service was fast.

Wanted to try a new coffee shop and this place was a great find. The atmosphere is great and it still was somewhat busy (but quick) right before their close at 4 pm. Ample seating because they share a space. I ordered the military latte which was a little too matcha-y for me but I will definitely be back to try something else.

A fun coffee shop that gets very packed and a line will form outside their door. Their coffee menu is unique and have bakery options. I had an iced military latte which was pretty unique with the orange flavor on it. There's also space for you to do work and is connected to Green Street Smoked Meats.

Awful, SO disappointing... My partner and I tried this place because of all the hype and everything we got tasted HORRIBLE. He got a camo latte and I got a mint matcha mocha and a croissant. Both drinks tasted like dish water. Mine had no mint or mocha just diluted matcha with a touch of milk and my partner's drink tasted like the water thats used to wash out a coffee machine. On top of that, the croissant which looked beautiful was super tough and bitter as if it was over cooked.... All around awful food and honestly, I want my money back because this was disgraceful to the Chicago food scene and my tastebuds

Coffee is usually alright for their high price but service...I had to leave because the attitude of the lady making the coffee was awful. She came out to be rude to a customer. Everyone who was in line left after that, why would we stay if the person making out coffee is fake shaking of anger complaining to a customer. Ambiance overall ok, but with those bad energies I'm not sure how anyone can work from there or even stand to order with someone frowning 24/7. There are a ton of other coffee shops filled with happy faces! Try Beatrix for example, staff is absolutely fantastic there! I see staff has been rude and condescending as of lately according to other reviews as well. I hope this place fixes the issues before they lose more customers.

SOLID coffee and matcha. Saturday and Sunday mornings are packed though, but manageable if you order ahead! Cool place for people watching hehe . Also dope place to wait for your High Five Ramen reservation

Visiting from Vancouver Canada where we have world class cafes. The espresso at Sawada was darker roast perfection. Cool, laid back, skater/tag culture influenced vibe. Bought a bag of X Project beans for home, especially as It's hard to find excellent darker roast in the current trend of lighter roasts. Highly recommend. X-Project. Is 100% Brazilian Arabica.

I was so disappointed with my visit today. Both my husbands Military Latte and my Matcha Latte were warm. When I say warm I’m being nice - they were cold. I couldn’t help but notice that the barista was not even steaming the milk properly which was the result of our cold lattes. A long line doesn’t justify a rushed job. Unfortunately the line was too long for us to go to the barista and ask her to redo our order. We threw them away that’s how cold they were. I’m honestly so sad this was once one of my all time favorite coffee spots that I frequented often and directed all my visitors to. It’s a shame.

This place is good if you like sweet drinks and dark roasted coffee. I wouldn’t go here if you want a light roast shot of espresso and are into specialty coffee.

The matcha quality is very poor and overall the matcha latte is way too sweet. Maybe I am biased because I had matcha in Japan. Not worth it at all for $7. Also they put a ton of ice in the drink.
