Very short staffed, both front and back of the house. Food was good but took forever to come out.

Their banh mi is more of a if you know you thing on their menu, but honestly the best thing. As lakeview locals, we keep going back to the place just for the banh mi sandwiches.

I believe this is the best pho in Chicago - hands down. The owner is very welcoming, courteous, & involved in ensuring you have the best experience. It’s a very quaint, unique spot - great for a date or family outing! Not to mention the pho is absolutely delicious & flavorful! Highly recommend!!

Some of the best pho in town, owner is always great for some conversation, and Yugoslavian items are great.

I never know what to expect with fusion restaurants but this place does each culture proud. We split the massive vegetarian pho and still had leftovers! The pho had a perfectly balanced mix of bok choy, cabbage, bean sprouts, carrots and mushrooms, but the icing on top was the perfectly fried tofu that became soft and savory as soon as I took a bite. My one and only minor critique is that the pho broth was a TINY bit salty The place is entirely family run, and it’s easy to see how much passion everyone has for the food; the Vietnamese chef and her Jugoslavian husband/general manager, as well as her sister, are all so kind and knowledgeable about the cuisine. Plus they have a pho card, which I’m sure will be used up quickly when I’m next back!

We stopped by and tried the massive veggie pho with tofu. It was so good! The veggies tasted fresh and the tofu was the right mix of firm and soft. The place was very busy for a Sunday night, but we got a table within 10 min. The family that runs it is very sweet and was working very hard to get to all the customers. The space is an interesting decor - like an old German pub / church. While they don't have a cocktail menu, they have a full bar and can make a drink.

I love pho, I’ve been to multiple pho places in the city (it feels unkind to compare businesses? and outside (Lombard, Orland park) BUT SUNSET PHO HAS THE MOST FLAVORFUL BROTH SO FAR. Have patience as it is a family owned place and is small, but the broth is delicious, noodles soft and tender and the meat is fantastic. I cannot say enough good things.

Overall Thoughts: Sunset Pho offers a unique, flavorful mix of traditional Viet and Viet-Judoslavian fusion dishes, in addition to a beautiful interior/vibe. I enjoyed everything we ordered, especially the cevapci pita sandwich— all the portions were large, filling, and delicious (though kind of pricey). The food also comes out pretty slowly, but each dish was paced well and the servers were very kind. Definitely try to make a reservation in advance! We didn’t, but came at 5pm on a Saturday and snagged the last available table. By the time we left, there were people waiting outside. I hope to return sometime in the future— there were so many enticing dishes on the menu I have yet to try!Food I tried:- Cevapci Pita Sandwich (4.7/5): We tried ordering it on a Vietnamese baguette, but got pita instead. Nonetheless, the sandwich was fire. The meat is grilled perfectly— not too dry, and was very flavorful. The pita was soft and spongey, and the fries were crispy.- Banh Xeo (4.4/5): Basic dish, but they did it well— the exterior was crispy and the pork belly was flavorful.- Vegetarian Rice Vermicelli (4.1/5): This was not bad and more flavorful than some other vermicelli dishes I’ve had in Chicago, but it still could’ve used an extra kick of flavor. The tofu was well-fried, but not very flavorful. The egg rolls were great though— crispy and delicious.—Price (relative to peers): 4.1/5Food: 4.4/5Ambience: 4.9/5Service: 4.7/5Overall Value: 4.5/5

Fantastic!! For appetizers we got the Spring Rolls (Shrimp) and calamari. Both were great and for an entree we got the vegetarian pho and the spicy lemongrass soup. Everything was delicious and the portions were huge!! Plenty of leftovers. Pro tip: call ahead and place a reservation on the weekends, they get very busy!!
