Had a bad service experience and the manager, Jason Sundberg, was very nice, apologized and said it was complimentary. Well done!

Overpriced drinks with mediocre food.

This was excellent. It's a hidden Chicago rooftop bar but without the price tag of other rooftop bars.

Solid spot to come for a cute meal and/or drinks during patio/rooftop season. I came here with some friends during the summer. The "rooftop" is cute, with good views, decor, and some nice photo ops. We made reservations on a Sunday, and were able to be seated right away; it didn't seem very busy at all which was surprising. Our wait staff was kind, attentive, and helpful with guiding us through the menu options. We ended up ordering bottles of rose for the table, so I can't comment on the cocktails. The only thing I was disappointed by was the food. They have a lot of promising options on the menu. I was able to try chorizo skillet and the pork belly fried rice. The effort was there, but unfortunately the flavor was lacking. The chorizo skillet ended up getting doused in hot sauce. For a dish topped with a mound of "chili crisp", the pork belly fried rice was also disappointingly bland. I did get a side croissant and that was my favorite part.

Decided to take my girlfriends to Upstairs at the Gwen after their commute from out of state and it was such a great experience! We were greeted with such warm welcomes from the staff and immediately walked to our reserved table. Upon seated our waitress Maria did a great job at making sure we had everything we needed. We all started with a round of Mezcal Sours by the beautiful bartender Tanairy which were so delicious! Chef James came out and introduced himself to our group which was really nice, it made the whole experience that much more memorable. He walked us through some of the items on the menu and was very thorough with what was new and what were some house staples. I must say the Brussels sprouts and the salmon were my favorites. Chef James, Corey and Nate were all so kind and their hospitality was 10/10. Tany’s cocktails were the cherry on top of our spectacular dinner. If you ever find yourself in Chicago make sure to check out Upstairs at The Gwen, I can’t wait to return!

I had an exceptional dining experience at the restaurant. The chef James culinary skills were truly impressive, crafting dishes that were both flavorful and beautifully presented. The bartender tanairy also deserves praise for creating delicious and innovative cocktails. The combination of skilled professionals in the kitchen and behind the bar made for a memorable evening. Highly recommended! I will be coming back for sure!

First time visiting the upstairs at the Gwen, while in Chicago for a girls weekend. Upon our arrival, my party of four was greeted with warm welcomes and the option of dining in doors or out on the rooftop. However even with the fire place well lit we decided to enjoy an indoor dinner. Our bartender of the evening Tanairy walked us through the cocktail menu and ultimately gave us the recommendation of a Mezcal Sour. Tany was able to take the traditional amaretto sour and transformed it into a modern day drink with a twist that catered to the taste we were looking for. The starter we ordered the Breads and Spreads and the whipped ricotta with honey was delicious. When entrees made their way to the table, each dish was presented by James the Executive Chef, Corey the Sous-Chef and Nate their additional cook. The handsome and cheerful trio introduced each entrée, and what it took in preparation of each meal. I personally enjoyed that the knowledgeable chef and his team explain the significance of each dish, it made the dinner feel that much more unique and a personalized dining experience. The dishes, just as attractive as the men were phenomenal! The star of the show was the Seared Scallops, highly recommend. The gentlemen then brought out a beautiful assortment of desserts and detailed each dish for my friends and I. The whole playful, knowledgeable, warm welcoming encounter by Tanairy, James, Corey, Nate and other behind the scenes team made this dinner monumental for my girls trip. Over all this was by far the best dining experience I have had in Chicago.

My friend and I went in because he said they have a good happy hour. We arrived at 4pm and there was no host so we sat ourselves. There were 2 bartenders talking to each other and 4 staff members in the corner ignoring us. After 20 minutes no one ever came over. I walked to the hotel concierge and told him what happened. He was very apologetic and offered to get someone for me to talk to but at that point I just wanted to leave. It's supposed to be a 5 star restaurant but hardly is. We went to the Langham and they were more than happy to have our business. Very disappointing. They won't be open long if that's how they treat their customers.

If I could give a lower amount of stars I would. The curling game that my family came for does not function properly. The stones curve almost immediately to the left or right making the game near impossible to play correctly. Not on ice, it's on plastic.

My wife and I has the most wonderful experience on Saturday evening 11-11-2023. Our server Michael was so professional and welcoming to us. I can truly say I look forward hosting private dining events there and recommend this restaurant. Thank you Michael you are amazing.

The selection of food and drinks was very diverse. I want to go curling next time. Heads up it requires a reservation before going. Besides that it was a fun experience.

Michael T was awesome! He helped me with before I knew there was a problem. Great job. I was looking for hot tea but he not only helped me but explained all the options.

I stopped for a drink at the Upstairs at the Gwen. Michael O. Was very warm and made me feel welcome as a solo diner. He checked on me appropriately-timing wise to allow me to take advantage of the lux happy hour.
