WOW these folks know what they are doing. Food is super fresh, and in fact none of it is pre made-- only after you order do they start to cook, and they are fast. Limited menu but so so good. Choices are unique. Go and find out yourself. Street corn was really truly tasty. Favorites are the steak tacos and yes, super tender, no beef jerky tacos here. Also they have a neat selection of ice cream! The folks who run this place are very nice, kind people too :)

I called ahead to inquire about this restaurant's hours. The young lady whom answered the phone informed me that they would be open until 8pm today. I replied I will see you shortly. However, when I arrived to the restaurant and proceeded to walk in with a party of 4. I was told that they reopen at 4pm. I was not given any of this information over the phone. This was my 1st experience with Hillside Restaurant. I was unable to give this restaurant a try.

Had Meatloaf. It was outstanding and the soup was outstanding. Sat outside and while the food was a little slow in coming, it was worth the wait.

Every single time I order they miss one of my items. This time it was the apple pie. This is my last time trying to support and then the customer service sucks. If I ordered my food online why would I want to come in and get the ONE item you could’ve put in the bag and it’s Food! it’s not like it’s forks or spoons?? you have it CLEARLY written. I’m done with this place

This is a nice, retro, family restaurant. The food is clearly mostly homemade instead of just trucked in pre-prepared and reheated. The chicken parmigiana was much better than I expected. I normally don’t like meat spaghetti sauce, but there’s was hearty and had a good beef flavor to it. Large portions. We also had friendly service. Check it out.

This place is DeKalb's hidden gem. When you walk in, it's as if you're walking into a time machine. It has an old-time feel and the ambience is cozy and homey. In addition to the great vibe, the food is excellent, and the dessert - OMG. Definitely recommend for date nights, special occasions, or just a great home-cooked meal.

I love this place. It's the quintessential small town restaurant. Super friendly. Great, home cooked meal. It's our got-to place for special occasions -graduations, family visiting, etc. Don't go to Chili's (ours is gross anyway). Support a fantastic local business!!

Filet Mignon cooked to perfection. Pie ala mode for dessert. Perfect!

I eat here as much as possible. I especially enjoy the ethnic foods (german, french, etc) and their spinach/mushroom lasagne and Butternut Squash soup (seasonal) is the best I've ever had. The atmosphere is cozy and the service is great. I have also ordered "take out" dinners for 6 that include a salad, soup, main dish, and a pie, and that was a big hit. Their caramel apple pie is a fabulous desert! Go have dinner at the Hillside Cafe and I guarantee you'll love it!

Went with party of 6. One being in a wheelchair not accommodating to that person.

Just got back from Friday dinner out at Hillside. We got 2 entrees that came with a side of soup or salad and 4 pieces of bread with some butter. We also took home an apple crunch pie.my husband giving this restaurant 2.5 stars and I’m giving it a solid 3-3.5. The food came out quick and there was no wait to get seated. Also, our meals were decent size portions, I could only finish like a 1/3 of a meal.Flavor wise my pasta needed more salt, my chicken was chewy ( but the breading was good ) and meat sauce was on point. The best part was butternut squash bisque soup. It tasted homemade and was well seasoned. My husband ordered Friday special fish fry and I personally liked his fish more than him. The big piece of fish tasted great( super juicy ) but the smaller pieces were somewhat overcooked. His meal came with a side of standard frozen crinkle cut fries and some sauté veggies. Veggies had a nice taste. I liked his salad but he wasn’t impressed as it tasted like a bagged salad. Oh well, it was still fresh and crispy. Now, I was super excited for this apple crisp pie and I am not a fan of it. I like my apples cooked before they are put in a pie and I wish I knew besides classic cinnamon and nutmeg there is clove in this pie. Too bad we bought the whole thing. I think I’ll try to cook it for a little longer to see if I can soften the apples. The interior of the place is on the darker side. I liked the style of it but it could use some update. Also we were the youngest customers there.Overall I’m glad we went because we always park across the street and pass this place so it was a time to give it a try.Paid $65 for all + tips

We had dinner reservations at 6:45 prior to attending a show next door at 8:00. We got there on time and the restaurant was busy. We had to wait about 10 minutes to get a table which was ok. They suggested we place our order while waiting for our table to help speed the process. We get our table at 7 and promptly got our salads and bread. We're thinking, since we pre-ordered, our dinner would show up in 10 or 15 minutes. We waited..7:15...7:30..7:40. No one came to our table with an update, filled our water glasses...nada. Finally at 7:45 we left. We met a friend at the show who was at the restaurant and they waited 2 HOURS and never got their food. When we were leaving, four other tables each with four to six people were right behind us. They easily lost $600 from 5 tables walking out. It was really disorganized and it appeared that they were under staffed. What could have been a great night for the business, turned a lot of people off. There are a number of new restaurants within two blocks of the Hillside and unless the Hillside gets it's act together those other restaurants are going to take their customers.

This place looks adorable. I loved the view and the seating in here. The food on the other hand was pretty disappointing. The food I got was super dry and not too good. Didnt even seem fully cooked. The bowl of minestrone I asked if it had meat, the lady said no but it is made with beef broth so I said I wouldn't eat it since I'm vegetarian but she brought it to me anyways. I wish I had a better experience with my food here. I did love the view. This place is beautiful

Extremely disappointed in the entire visit. We were excited to back after not being there for a few years. We had a party of 13, which most of them it was their first visit. I made a reservation a week before, as instructed by the lady on the phone made it a little earlier. 5:15, so we had plenty of time to get to our show at the Egyptian next door at 7:30. Our table was set and ready when we got there, the only positive if the night. It started with it taking over 30 minutes to even get our drinks. The tables were sticky. The beverage options were water, lemonade, tea, sprite, mountain dew or beer/wine. They ran out of the soup. We sat there for 1 hour and 55 minutes before our food came out. We got our food at 7:10 and the play was at 730. No one ever came to clear the dirty dishes from the soup, salad and empty drinks. We were given 2 menus for 13 people. We asked if we could get pitchers of water, we got one small pitcher again for 13 people. The waitresses were not professional looking at all. They were wearing grubby hooded sweatshirts, hair down and messy all over. The entrees are very expensive for what you get. Spaghetti that's $20 a plate and you get enough sauce to barely stain the noodles. I could go on, but I think you get the idea. Terribly disappointed and would not recommend.
