Unreal! We accidentally fell upon this place this morning and upon entering my jaw dropped and mouth started watering instantly. We ordered a big bag full of both savory and sweet pastries and we ate everything while making lots of mmmmmm sounds throughout. The coffee is great too. We are just visiting Chicago and leave tomorrow but are planning on dropping by again for one more visit before taking off back to Kentucky. All of the pastries and goodies are the perfect blend of flaky and crunchy and gooey and soft and all the right places with a different taste in every bite! Yuummmmmmm....

Hewn Bakery is very cute coffee shop located here in Evanston. It is a hidden gem where you will find the best pastries. The highlight here for me was the crescents which were buttery, flakey, and the perfect texture. There are lots of choices to choose from. Everything I've had from Hewn has been absolutely delicious and always consistent. Their staff were knowledgeable and gave recommendations. It's a very cozy shop, with a great selection of drinks and bakery items. Would highly recommend trying pastries here! I can't wait to go back.

Hewn refuses to accept legal tender. They will only accept credit cards, which are not legal tender. That's simply un-American. They force people to pay for bank fees and to get into debt. The fact is that some people can't afford to have a credit card. Some can't qualify. Others, understandably, refuse to have one. Fortunately, there are other, better bakeries in the area with civilized policies.

You have to get there early to get a loaf of their fresh-from-the oven Challah bread- they fly off the shelf! I accidentally bought the one without the raisins, and thought I would be disappointed. I was not. I also got some huge, flakey croissants and cheese and chive scones. Everything was exceptional!

Great breads, sandwiches, and coffees. Unfortunately there is no dining room so plan to take it to go.

Place was recently named one of the best bakeries in some random publication. So glad I paid attention because the final product was delicious. I had the chocolate croissant, cinnamon brioche, fruit galette, & monkey bread. They were about $5 a piece which is cheap as far as Chicago prices go & while I went 1st thing in the morning I didn't have to brave the Bundt of sold out items. I'm curious to try a sandwich or their kombucha but my 1st visit more than surpassed my expectations

Hands down, my favorite bakery! If you want quality bread, this is the place for you. They also have sweet rolls (cinnamon rolls, chocolate croissant, scones, etc) garlic Parmesan loaf on Wednesdays! But you will love their sourdough!

A cozy bakery that's about as artisan as it gets. The interior is beautifully rustic, and the aroma of freshly baked croissants, scones, breads, and pastries entices you as soon as the door opens. Their selection is extensive, and the service is impeccable. The items themselves are slightly pricy, but you can really appreciate the craft and dedication put into every baked good.I kid you not - I was about to walk past this place until the door opened. One whiff was all it took. That's how good this place is.

Came here twice hoping to get a tuna sandwich but both times they were completely sold out. I wish there was an option to order online the day of but it seems that you can only order days in advance. I have tried both the savory and the everything croissant. Both are delicious but I prefer the savory (less messy when eating in the car). The croissants are flaky and not overly buttery. I also had a matcha latte and the the matcha flavor is good and it was well blended (not powdery). Overall, we will be back (hopefully with a tuna sandwich in tow)!
