Onion loaf, onion loaf, onion loaf! Well, great Godfrey Daniels, it's the main thing that brings us here! Given the unruly competition amongst burger-centric places, the eponymous Hackneyburger no longer tops our list. Instead, we build our meals around the incomparable (although caloric) brick-on-a-plate by supplementing it with healthier options from the expansive menu. On this visit, I ordered half a crab salad (imitation crab, natch) sandwich on their famous dark rye bread with a cup of chicken noodle soup. My Missus ordered a grilled chicken sandwich with a side of boiled potatoes. We couldn't have been happier with our choices. We took half of the brick home to resurrect later in the air fryer. Menu prices remain surprisingly fair, and we always enjoy the friendly service. We prefer the timeworn ambience of this sprawling multi-room Glenview classic to the even more timeworn original on Harms Road.

Living in the western suburbs, we’re always looking for an excuse to go to Hackney’s.Very disappointing. We sat there for 15 minutes while the waitress served 3 other tables before we had to ask for service. Then once we got her attention (finally) she would not take my order for a well done burger. That is the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard at a restaurant. We just got up and walked out.

Terrible service and cold food!!! should not take 45 minutes to get a burger and veggie burger. was seated at 5:20 so they were not busy. Waitress ignored us the whole time and manager was no use either ! We had a problem their months ago , they forgot our order , and the kid at the front desk just laughed when we walked out. Thought we would give it another try , but will never go back and will get the message out to people not to Go!

Nice place, and the staff was pretty friendly. We got burgers and onion loaf based on recommendations. Everything was good, but not overly memorable. Odd that the pumpernickel with the burger wasn't grilled.

The food here is great as usual, but it took forever for us to get our food and one of us had the wrong order delivered to us. It then took another 30 minutes for them to bring us the right order.
This was our first time visiting. We have gone to the other location on Harms often. We were pretty disappointed with our experience. My wife's sandwich had tomato that was gone bad. My daughter's Mac and cheese had a hair in it, and after our server took our fries away we saw her grab one and eat it. The bread on my "hot" corned beef was cold on the edges. Not planning to return.

Been coming here since I was a little kid in the mid 70’s. Family favorite from the days most of our family/extended family lived in Chicago. Burgers and fried onions are fantastic as usual. Atmosphere is top notch, great environment decorated in a classic, old school look. Highly recommend. Never miss when visiting.

My sister and I sat at the bar, each having a drink and then ordering lunch which was delicious! Mushroom and spinach quesadillas were wonderful and the Hackney burger was great as usual! Domingo, the bartender, was very nice and efficient, keeping watch to meet everyone’s needs! He mixes good drinks too! Our family has been going to Hackney’s on Lake for many years, celebrating milestones and life passages. Our dad would have a couple Manhattans and lunch most days at the bar during his retirement years! We continue the traditions there! Thank you Hackney’s!

I've been going to Hackney's for close to 60 years and other than the wallpaper, the place is just as I remembered. The onion loaf ... still amazing. The beer was cold and the burgers were perfect. Highly recommend local classic watering hole.

We stopped in this long time local favorite for dinner during North Shore Restaurant Month. The offer was buy a sandwich and receive a free quarter loaf of fried onion rings. It had been a long time since I last ate at Hackney's on Lake and I left a bit disappointed. Nothing in Hackney's has changed over the years except the food and the family Thanksgiving pictures on the wall. It was a busy night so that might have impacted our experience. The onion loaf was greasy and kind of bland which is not what I recall from other times ordering it. I ordered a burger on dark rye. The burger was good but the bread fell apart as I was eating the burger making it messy to eat which I also don't recall. Next time I'll get a bun instead of the rye. My husband ordered a burger that seems to be their version of a Juicy Lucy burger. He said it was good but the cheese and bacon filling seemed to be replaced with cheese and bacon on top. The apple pie we had for dessert was good. If you are looking for a decent meal in the Glenview area give Hackney's a try. They haven't been around for decades for nothing.
