I never expected to be so disappointed in a visit to the VFW. It's unfortunate that one person can ruin the whole experience. From the moment we walked in the door, hostess Deb set the vibe for the entire night. She immediately made us feel as if we were not welcome. I have family working in the kitchen and it was set up that my granddaughter was going to sell school chocolates at the door. I had more family coming in and out to support her and we asked for a 4 top so they could sit to eat. Deb gave the first ones a 6 top and didn't stop complaining about them for the 3 hours we were there. She complained the table was supposed to be reserved (but she sat them there). She complained there was only 2 at that moment, even though 5 more showed up. She complained they weren't ordering food fast enough, but the table earned $200 in the end. As far as the chocolate selling went, Deb had a bad attitude about the whole situation and didn't want to even help with getting a table. My family member had to come out of the kitchen to grab a table. Then she finally went to turn heaters on but didn't bother with a light even after someone else said something. A volunteer came a bit later to turn a light on for us. Her bad attitude came in to play even trying to pay the check. Every one else was and has always been so nice and accommodating but I was literally embarrassed for the experience my family had dealing with her. IF I ever go in there again and see her I will literally walk out and go somewhere else. Whatever problems she has shouldn't be brought into work with her.

We had the most amazing experience here! We had a last minute change of plans and I called Debbie and she worked her magic and she got us in to the VFW. Not only did she help us in that end she helped us prepare and helped us in any way possible. She was absolutely amazing and I highly recommend working with her! I will be doing future events here! Thank you Debbie for being our angel! On top of all this the food was absolutely amazing and all of the guests raved about it! I do not have enough amazing things to say about this place! Thank you for everything! ❤️

My mom had my baby shower at the VFW this past weekend and everything from the food to the service and overall atmosphere was amazing! We were in the Cedar Room, which was very clean and there was plenty of room for everyone to spread out and not be super congested. I would definitely recommend the VFW for any events!

Been at this VFW before to see musical acts and dancing. First time for dinner. Very surprised at the variety on the menu. Good beer and wine choices too. Food was very goodand the staff was attentive and friendly. We will be back and will eat again.Vegetarian options: Grilled vegetable panini was very tasty.

We were there for a Celebration of Life ceremony, and it was a nice venue. We didn't eat or drink, but food looked and smelled delicious. Bartenders were hustling.

Horrible management, be very cautious when booking an important event with these people, they can bump you with a week’s notice and do nothing to correct the situation! They broke our contract (which was in place 2 months prior to the event) a week before my father’s (a veteran and former government employee) celebration of life and just said it was due to a scheduling conflict. Admitted that this has happened 3 other times as well. None of the information was in the contract Or mentioned during the several conversations that took place. Complete disregard and disrespect for one of their own. They definitely don’t live up to their motto!

PLANNING A SPECIAL EVENT? Think again before booking with the McHenry VFW. We had my father-in-law’s (a veteran) celebration of life event scheduled over a month in advance and A WEEK BEFORE THE EVENT THEY CALLED AND SAID THEY HAD TO BREAK CONTRACT!!This is unheard of for such an event planned well in advance. The event at the VFW has been publicly announced for over a month through the funeral home, Face Book, email, and word of mouth.There are family members and friends flying in from different parts of the country with plane tickets that were purchased in advance! The McHenry VFW failed a veteran and failed his family and the community. I don’t understand how anyone, or any organization, could feel comfortable morally with the decision to cancel an event of this nature 9 days in advance!I hope they have a good explanation to any of our guests who show up on Saturday March 4, 2023 between 1-4 PM.Please be very cautious if you are planning an event at this location. THERE APPEARS TO BE NO GUARANTEES OR CHECKS-AND-BALANCES IN PLACE WITH THE OWNER/S and or EVENT PLANNING COMMITTEE.

I went for their 1/2 price burger special on Thursday. I tried their Bacon Cheddar burger. It was one of the best burgers I’ve tasted in a long time! The burgers are HUGE and comes with lettuce, tomato, onions, & a pickle. Better than Culver’s. I also got a coke which comes with a free refill. Definitely worth the money. If you’re looking for a good place to have lunch, I recommend checking them out.
