A classic for good reason. Easily the best ice cream I've had, with a variety of great flavors.

The hubby & I went through the drive thru on our way home. We ordered 2 snicker shakes to eat when we got home. When we took off the lids it smelled a bit sour. We tried one bite and had to throw them both out. My stomach turned as soon as that spoon hit my mouth with the spoiled milk smell and taste. I tried calling and got an automated system and had to leave a message. I left a message stating I wanted to speak with a manager and told them what had happened. Now I'm just waiting for a response to my message.

Ice cream is great. The girl that rang us up didn’t seem like she wanted to be there and wasn’t happy to serve us. When we left she shot us with fake finger guns.

Great ice cream terrible customer service. The white girl that took our order did not seem very happy to be there and she shot some fake finger guns at us after we left. Kinda hurt our feelings would not recommend if you want to be respected.

Whiteys ice cream is my favorite ice cream on the planet. It's a old fashion shop that mix is it to order and you can order some of the most exciting ice cream dishes and classic dishes in the world. Their shakes their malts there's Sundays there banana splits and every type of ice cream exit Kari has never disappointed me and the service is out of this world. Perfect by young kids that are making it happen. Tip them well and I'll take care of you Five star recommended.

I write this review with a bit of trepidation because my in-laws will likely bury me alive if they read this review.Maybe I'm spoiled because of Kelley Country Creamery just a few miles from my house, but I have been a bit disappointed every time I've gone to Whitey's, mostly because it's been hyped up by my wife's family so much.Speaking honestly, it's pretty good ice cream. That being said, DQ has "pretty good" ice cream, and Whitey's doesn't have burgers and chicken and all that other stuff to take some of the focus off their sweet treats, so it should be better than DQ... but it isn't. It has some creaminess and it's very sweet, but the first time I went and got regular ice cream, it had ice crystals, taking away a bit of the experience. I think I just got unlucky, but still. Since then, I've gone twice again and ordered a shake each time. I like them drinkable because it is a SHAKE, but that's not how they're made. That's my own preference, and they always oblige me, so I have no beef with that. I will be comparing price, speed, and taste with various other ice cream shops that feature prominently in the Midwest, since Whitey's claims they are "Best in the Midwest." I will primarily compare it to Culver's and Coldstone. Both of those places come out in front of Whitey's in terms of taste. They have much more body and depth to their respective treats, while Whitey's is incredibly sweet, missing out on some of that fatty, eggy richness of delicious ice cream. The speed of service is fine, with someone always ready to take my order, but the speed of delivery leaves something to be desired. Both Coldstone and Culver's blow Whitey's out of the water in how quickly the treats are made and handed to you. It always takes 10 minutes or so to get your ice cream fix from Whitey's, which is rather excessive. As for affordability, it shouldn't cost $7+ for a shake. Even for a pasture-raised, fresh cream from their own cows, handmade shake from Kelley Country Creamery, it's only $5 for the same size, and the quality is not comparable. (Don't take that too hard, Kelley has even won over my die-hard Whitey's repping in-laws.)Whitey's gets high marks for nostalgia with the hats, staff friendliness, the old-timey look and feel of the restaurants, and ice cream that can compare with DQ, Blue Bunny or A&W. Beyond that, I am not really a huge fan.Judging on take-home cartons of ice cream, Cedar Crest and Ben & Jerry's beat out Whitey's in terms of taste and richness, but Whitey's beats Ben & Jerry’s for affordability on their pre-packaged tubs.Overall, it's a Quad-Cities staple, with a fan-base going back generations. It's nostalgia in a sugary cup, with friendly service. There are some drawbacks, and it doesn't quite reach the "Best in the Midwest" claim they have, but I give it a solid 3-star review. For what they claim to be, they are solidly in the middle of the pack.
