Andy our hibachi chef was a great host for my family. I appreciated the food, humor, and customer service.

Great time

The food was very good, very flavorful but smaller portions than we are used to. Very small salads, small soup portion, small noodle portion. No menus! Use your phone to take photo of menu at host stand! Very inconvenient. 18% tip added to the taxed amount of your meal plus they add a tip option to the bill. Andy was an excellent chef, very personable. However, due to the lack of menus AND the 18% tip automatically added to the taxed part of the meal, we would never go back.

I'm changing my review. This place was great years ago. When I went the last time, 2 baby cockroaches crawled onto my plate from underneath the hibachi table. The chef was shocked, the lady in charge didn't seem to care. We told them we were leaving and they still had the audacity to charge us for the mini salad and bowl of broth they gave us, that we didn't even eat. Stay away.

Been going to this place for years and it has went downhill. No physical menus, diet size portions, they automatically add 20% in the bill for the tip. The food was subpar. Saturated in lard and butter. Our chef was a dud. His personality was like a wet mop. He did things backwards, like the appetizer was last. We needed to ask for things like the sauces and soy sauce.Truly heartbreaking. Had such good memories of this place, taking my kids there for their birthdays. I truly hesitated before writing this review. Goodbye Shogun.

We've been going here for about 16 years now. We worried that the pandemic would shut their doors but they survived! Andy is our chef! He makes the going their worth while. His positive attitude, his cooking style. He enjoys hosting his customers. The other staff as well do a fantastic job. I wish we were closer but always worth the drive.Kid-friendliness: They have kid chopsticks and the chefs always put on a good show for the kids!

I had been hearing so much about Shogun and its hibachi food that I decided to finally stop by and give it a try myself. Right off the bat, the inside is very aesthetic and there's Polaroids all over the walls from YEARS ago, showcasing all the different celebrations that have taken place here for so long. Even to this day, they snap a picture of you at the end of your meal and give you the picture to hang somewhere in the restaurant, which you can find when you come back! They start off with soup and salad, which is light and refreshing. Theres also tons of appetizer options on the menu, we didn't have any ourselves but a lot of people around us did and liked it a lot. The food consisted of choice of meat, veggies, rice, AND noodles. Most hibachi places offer rice OR noodles so this was a great surprise! I got the chicken and veggie and my husband got the steak and shrimp. I will say that Shogun is on the sweeter side when it comes to hibachi. Every single thing on my plate tasted more sweet than salty or spicy. We did have to order some hot sauce on the side to balance everything out, but if you enjoy sweet, you'll love it. Everything was well cooked, well flavored, and came in huge quantities so there's always tons to take home. The noodles were amazing so I would definitely order extra when you visit because they're so soft and your plate is finished before you know it! It's a great spot for celebrating anniversaries and birthdays because the chefs are always so fun and watching the food get prepared in front of you is such a treat! Would recommend if you're in the NPV area but be sure to get reservations ahead of time!

BEST. Hibachi. EVER.Delicious, Family owned small business that’s been a staple of Naperville since 1981!!Beyond having amazing food in large portions at affordable prices; it’s laid back, comforting atmosphere tells endless stories over four decades of memories and celebrations lined as wallpaper made of photos.. Various snapshots of happiness and joy brought together by food, family, friendships, and fun!! ????

We visited for a birthday celebration. Positives - appreciated not being seated with strangers in this post Covid world, the photo with our family was a nice touch.. the kids were excited to find a spot for it. Negatives- take a photo of the three page menu at the front so you know what to order at your seats after you sit down (huh)? charged $5 for them to sing happy birthday with a slice of pineapple, and an oddly itemized bill without descriptions of what we ordered made it difficult to understand what we were charged for. Sadly the place felt a little run downAnd dingy. I don't think we would return.

Been coming here since 2004ish. Was introduced from a buddy and in turn introduced many other others. Hands down the best Japanese steak house have ever found in the states. For anyone that has ate there or is about too, make sure you add the garlic to rice and noodles. Its a game changer. Also always order double noodles they are that good. Egg yok over the shrimp with garlic is delicious. Don't let the egg yok scare you. It did me for the first few times and regretted later. Make sure to tell Andy Joe sent ya!

Another new restaurant that we tried, my husband chose it for a new experience and new location. First impression was good and bad. There were so many past customers party pictures sticking on every wall. So we thought it must be a good place. But at the same time, those old photos make the place look old. We just walked in and the hostess told us to take pictures of the menu at the check in without telling us why. I didn’t want to take it since I was expecting to look at a physical menu at the table. But no, there was NO physical menus. After seating, I had to walk out from my table to the check in desk to take the photos. Did not look good. Seriously?!We ordered the family meal for two, the lobster with steak and shrimp with egg yolks. We ordered steam rice instead of fried rice. We had to share the table with two strangers/teenagers who were not conscious about the language they used in front of young kids (F words). They were overall nice but they were not suitable to share table. The show was just ok. The chef was not really interactive or funny. The food was not bad but it was just too pricey for the amount of food we got. Plus, they forgot to give us steam rice at the beginning. Until the show was done and the chef left, I was like where is our rice? We were still hungry. They brought us two bowls of rice after we finished eating all the food already. So we just mixed the rice with leftover sauce to finish it. What an experience! They did not even have the thought to apologize for their mistake. Yet, they added $15 tips, plus extra charge for egg yolks, to our check making it to around $130. I would not give this much tip for poor services and experience.

I have been going here on and off for over 10 years and the food and service are always great! It is the best bang for your buck Japanese hibachi restaurant in the Naperville-Plainfield area! Must try for Japanese hibachi lovers.

This place is really weird but not bad. First, there are no menus. You have to take photo of an ugly menu glued to front desk.Make a reservation, don't come in like we did without. Very akward but we didn't have to wait. There are no normal tables, only hibachi style with grill. Drinks are very light and there is only 5-6 of them in the menu. Why? I still don't know.Prices are ok. For 4 people dinner I paid $155 (wirh 3 drinks and 2 sodas)+ $10 tax, +$25 top1 + $17 tip2 =$200All walls are made of thousands birthday photos. All servers are probably Asian.Overall grade is 3stars (out of5).The look doesn't help. The food was good, cook was nice.
