We decided to go to Avanti's for dinner to celebrate my birthday instead of our usual delivery or pick up now that the dining room is open again.Very disappointed...you order at the front counter at the cashier and pay ahead of time, seat yourself, and then get your own drinks back by the banquet room and kitchen. Not sure what happens when they are busy! Only about 3 or 4 other tables with a few customers at each so they were not busy that evening.Someone did bring the food to our table, then we were never checked on or asked if we needed anything else. I even had to track down my own take home containers.I hope this is only temporary as we had hoped for table service in a resturant. I guess we will stick with delivery or pick up for awhile. Food was still good, although the salad could have been fresher.

A local treasure. The food is good for mass-produced Italian/American and could never be considered "upscale", but it is consistently good and you get a lot for the $$$.

Great Food, Excellent Value. I like Fettuccine Alfredo. Small order and I get two meals from single order. Can add side salad for 95 cents. Service is fast and accurate. Also the Bread is Legendary, sweet Flav.Wheelchair accessibility: Totally Accessible.

I always get the gondolas, spaghetti, garlic bread mozzarella open face, a loaf of bread with butter, salad with bread chips, and cheese balls for the whole family. I spend around $50 at most for all of that with the tip!

So sad after my visit 2-10-24. Not the Avanti's I remember from the '90. Order and pay like McDonalds. Go get your own drink. $30 for 2 orders. Food was hot but nothing special. The bread is still good.

Local staple. It's fantastic comfort food and anyone who grew up here remembers Avanti's Gondolas being part of every gathering.

Wow, what happened to this place? While never fine Italian, it was always good for what it was. I was in town and dined in for the first time in years and was shocked. No more waiter service, you walk up to a counter are handed a menu then order and pay on the spot. You get handed a number and drink cups and the rest you pretty much do for yourself. There is a runner to bring your food and that is it. Portions are small, prices are even higher than they were before and to food was really disappointing. Lasagna tasted as if it was old and from the rubbery hard cheese, I believe microwaved with sauce that was barely over room temperature. Need a to go container? Get back in line up front to ask. Pathetic. Born and raised in Bloomington, have loved this place for many many years but unfortunately not any more. So sad. What the h@ll happened to this place?

Avanti's does have a high reputation as a good, local Italian restaurant in the Bloomington area. Especially their bread. The bread was tasty. It was nice and sweet. I got the Italian sausage sandwich with marinara sauce and mozzarella cheese. It was brought out with a sausage patty on one loaf and cheese slices and marinara on the other. The sausage was good, with a little spice to it. The marinara was just ok. A little tart for my taste. And the presentation was, boring. The toasted ravioli was fine, but nothing better than what you could get from the store. Our waitress was very nice and checked on us a couple times. Overall, just an ok experience.

The food gave a hint of nostalgia. I remember grabbing a La gondola coming home from class. These sandwiches are massive, great, and reasonable! My sons had their first taste of Avanti's and really liked it!
