First time in and this place is so cute! They did an excellent job decorating to make it feel more authentic. Our chef was nice but seemed very young… he tried to make small talk with us but we were surprised when he brought up some pretty controversial subjects. The soup and salad were just okay, soup didn’t have great flavor and salad was a little watery. The beef fried rice was excellent and the meat was all cooked pretty well. I don’t like how they piled all the food together on one little plate and how they cooked the veggies first, it would have been nice to eat them with the rest of the meal. The chef was very quick with everything, it wasn’t a show like I thought it would be at Benihana, it was more like quick cook all your food and then leave. My favorite part was the ice cream. The green tea ice cream was excellent!! The other staff who grabbed water and boxed up the leftovers, they were all very nice. Overall I don’t think the price matched the experience. It’s okay to have inflated prices if the quality matches but unfortunately I don’t feel the quality was high enough for the price. If you have money to burn then for sure I would recommend checking out but I can’t say I would recommend this place to those on a budget.

We came here for dinner while visiting relatives. We had 2 tables of 8 and unfortunately, despite a steep bill, not a single person enjoyed their food. The salad was topped with lightly seasoned, thick mayonnaise.? The fried rice was extremely greasy, made with ground beef and lacked flavor. It also cost extra for fried rice. Soup lacked flavor. Chefs did not interact with the children (or anyone). No sauce available except bottled teriyaki. Steak was overcooked at one of the tables. We were disappointed to find they no longer serve any sushi at all. Everything was under-seasoned. Service was infrequent and indifferent. Vegetables had mixed reviews at the tables. Ice cream and squid were okay.

Ron of Japan is one of my absolute favorites. I prefer it over Benihana any day. I’ve been to both locations for years and I usually pick this one because it’s bigger, a little nicer, and you don’t have to worry about parking like in downtown. They have the best salad dressing. The beef fried is the really good and the egg yolk sauce too. Everything is quality. Worth the price.

It's been years since I've been to Ron. I have to say it is changed. I'm thinking not for the better either. The food was so oily you could see it dipping off the food. To me its gone downhill. If toy wasn't Teriyaki Chicken all they do is soak it with Soy sauce. Well that's great if you love salt! I asked for actual Teriyaki sauce, THEY DON'T HAVE IT! So either use the ginger sauce or soy. No thanks. This is the ONLY place that doesn't offer Teriyaki sauce, kinda weird for a Japanese Steak House. I think this will be the last time I go to Ron.

Bad bad bad bad! We visited to celebrate my son's 21st birthday and it was worst experience we ever had. Food quality was terrible. Food tested garbage. Chef looks exhausted that didn't interact and seems urged to finished. Our reservation was 7:30 pm and food served almost at 9 pm. Restaurant close at 8:30 pm. Never going back to Northbrook location and not recommended. Do not go this location.

DO NOT GO HERE........ Hibachi grill and Tsukasa is 10 times better. Got my order wrong, smelled bad in there, the hood vents were caked with grease build up, food tasted burnt yet my steak was rare when I asked for medium. Service was subpar, bathrooms were disgusting. The ice cream didn't even taste good ??‍♂️.

Our service was outstanding. We had a woman chef and that was a first. She cooked everything perfect for our table of 9. I love their lobster and shrimp. Most everyone else ordered beef tenderloin and shrimp. Everyone took home their leftovers. My favorite restaurant.

I was disappointed with my first experience being at Ron of Japan. Initially it started with the host who greeted us rather rudely. My family and I were only about 5-8 minutes early. The man who was at the host booth told us to wait in the are to his right. So we walked over and saw some very nice decor, figuring this was the area to wait. Instead, the man came over, sounding frustrated and told us to go into the bar area and wait there. Puzzled by his personality, we sat over by the bar. Awkward because we had a young child with us. regardless we waited, only to see that they decided to sit us at our table last. And left my family with only 1 menu while the other parties had plenty of menus. Our waitress was very nice and did a good job in making sure we were good. So that was ok. When the chef finally arrived (took him awhile) we already had our soup and a salad (the dressing wasn't very good, tasted like some sort of generic mayonnaise with some food coloring). He took a long time in getting to the different dishes. First he cooked the appetizers, then the veggies, then rice, and finally the meat, by the time he got to the meat of our meals, it had been 1.5 hours since we sat. Additionally the chef didn't know how to cook steak well, i had requested Medium Rare and my meat was cooked Well. Also, their egg sauce isn't anything to write home about. I felt it was bland, and one mixes it with Rice, it just makes things more pasty. The chef seemed to be new at his role. For example, he wasn't able to ignite the oil because his lighter wasn't filled. He wasn't very good at cooking some of the food and was very slow. I've been at other hibachi places and i have my entire meal within an hour. This just took too long. I also noticed other chefs were performing after ours had started, and they were done before ours was done, by quite a bit of time. Overall, it was an interesting first experience, but I do not feel we'll be back.

We were seated shortly after arriving however we were forced to wait 30 minutes to order because the other party joining our table was late. We had been seated for almost an hour before anyone came to cook our food. From start to finish dinner took 2.5 hours which is insane. Food items were forgotten, steak was severely undercooked, and water glasses were only refilled after specifically asking for more water. Usually we have a better experience, but tonight was not it.
