But a recent trip got me an overcooked hot dog, soggy fries, and this sorry order of fried mushrooms! Eight mushrooms for $4.49 and two of the things were EMPTY. So six mushrooms for $4.49! Of you want mushrooms, go to Silo in Lake Bluff. If you want a great hot dog, hit up Roost on 83 or Luke’s in Mundelein.

I've driven by almost daily since moving here a few weeks ago and since my son flew in last night for a visit I decided it was time to check out a local dive. I'm glad we did. The staff was really nice and seemed happy to be there. The restaurant is really divey but cool. I had the extra meat gyro sandwich and they aren't kidding about extra meat! There was a lot to the point I shared with my son. It was pretty tasty too. He had a Chicago style hot dog made with Vienna beef dogs. He really enjoyed it. To me the Kelly green pickle relish is off putting. It's just not a natural color for pickles but to each his own. He really enjoyed it and I have got to learn why the delicious sport peppers here are not available in California. I'd never even heard of them before getting hot dogs and sausages in the Chicago area. Anyway, I digress. If you want a good dog or gyro and are in the Round Lake Beach area, check out Sammie's. I will be back because they have a big menu I want to explore!

Let me start by saying that their food is great (a bit too oily but great), and that this review has nothing to do with their food quality but more so their management, problem solving skills, and wording in their menu. I ordered a steak dinner since everything else was labeled within a type of “sandwich”, and I did not want to order something with bread. Now nowhere on their dinner menu at the restaurant stated that dinners are also sandwiches, only that it came with French fries and coleslaw. When the order came, I tried to explain this misunderstanding to them and was told to “just remove the bread”. The issue here is that the bread wasn’t just the only thing wrong with the order, but the fact that the meat inside of the sandwich was also “sandwich meat” aka ground meat that is put together in a patty, and when you order a dinner you expect steak to just be steak, not ground beef.I didn’t want to make a big fuss and took the loss, but the man that was working there was simply rude, and gave 0 f’s about trying to listen to the customer. Either ways, seems like the girls working there were super nice but this dude is just… wow. Rude.Suggestion: maybe fix the menu in person as I can see that the online menu clearly states that “dinners” (an American standard, nationwide known as a “plate”) comes with bread.
