I tried both spider rolls and rainbow rolls, although they were both exceptionally tasty, I thought the rainbow roll had a superior flavor and texture. They had an amazing tonkatsu meal. Even though the dish was large, I can't believe I finished it all.

The food here is so authentic!! Everything tasted so great - we love the geso karaage, the yakitori, the seaweed salad, the yakiudon, the sashimi set. Everything was *chef's kiss*The service was so friendly and the tatami room was awesome!!! We will 100% be back and will be recommending this place to our friends!

Authentic food, admirable service, and astounding ambiance! Daruma Restaurant has such lovely, homey interior that makes you feel as though you traveled to the heart of Japan. The waiters went above and beyond to make sure that my brother's birthday was special. We made a reservation to sit Horigotatsu style on tatami floors. I highly recommend making a reservation for this private seating since it's wonderful to fully immerse yourself into the culture. For appetizers, we ordered the Beef Tataki and Chicken Karaage. Although a bit on the pricier side, the Beef Tataki is a must-try when you come visit this restaurant. The ponzu sauce complimented the beef very well. The Chicken Karaage was the perfect temperature and crunch. Although I would have much preferred a dipping sauce on the side, the cold mashed potatoes were surprisingly refreshing. Now for the main star of the show-- the entrees. The waitress was incredibly kind, helping provide information on the portion sizes for the sushi menu. We ended up ordering the Daruma Sushi Assortment, half a Crazy Roll, Spicy Scallop Roll, Hon Maguro Taku Maki Roll, and Tempura Udon. With such a wide selection of dishes, each one of them was a showstopper in their own way. The Hon Maguro Taku Maki was one of their specials, recommended by the waitress, and ended up being our favorite dish of the night. The nigiri slices were more than generous and the quality of the fish was excellent. We ended the near-perfect night with a complimentary Matcha Tiramisu to celebrate my brother's birthday. It tasted good, but I think adding more matcha powder to the top would have elevated the flavor a lot more. However, the dessert was very much appreciated. I will leave here with a few notes: 1. Jump out of your comfort zone and try some more authentic Japanese dishes here 2. Reserve the Horigotatsu seating 3. Thank me later

We visited this restaurant for my wife's birthday. The atmosphere was ok with attempts to make it look authentic Japanese. There's a small fish pond in the middle of the restaurant and cozy sunken booths to get that seated on the floor vibe. We came for sushi and were not disappointed. It was all fresh and seemed very authentic. Many places make sushi but Daruma's sushi seemed somewhat different... stepped up. The fish pieces on the Nigiri were larger. We tried some different pieces and there were Maki combinations that were fresh and different than the norm. My only complaint about the place was that it was either under construction or was just a bit run down. When you first walk in there were things piled into the corner of the bar area, there was a space heater in the middle of the room we were seated in to warm it up, and the bathroom was very rundown and in need of a makeover... fresh paint and an overall cleanup. The place needed a good dusting. Aside from the cosmetic issues, the food was excellent and well made. For my wife's birthday, they brought her out some green tea cheesecake that was very good. It was a nice end to a nice evening.

Very good authentic Japanese food, staff is japanese American and Japanese, japanese paraphernalia and environment, excellent service, will definitely be back.According to my japanese friend/coworker who mostly eats Japanese food while in the US, Daruma is his favorite.Vegetarian options: Salads, soups, and rice and veggies rolls, etc.Kid-friendliness: When I was dining, there were children in the restaurant. If your children are screamers, maybe don't bring them, if they're calm like the ones I saw there, then by all means, bring them

The restaurant atmosphere was welcoming and the overall service was good. The servers were attentive and food came through relatively quickly despite the restaurant being quite packed.A quick rundown of what we ordered:Spicy Geso Karage (6/10) - the spicy mayo is BARELY able to cover the oil-soaked taste on the squid tentacles. Even taking a bite out of the lemon, the oil tasting still lingers.Yakitori (10/10) - grilled to perfection with a well balanced sauce.Sashimi (10/10) - also a 10/10. It was very fresh and perfectly sliced. Can't ask for more for sashimi.Black Tonkotsu Ramen (10/10) - This is prob one of the best Tonkotsu Ramen I had in the Chicago area. The broth was ON POINT and the right amount of burnt garlic oil elevated the entire ramen experience. The noodle was also very well done and maintained the right texture.Macha Tiramisu (0/10) - Saw on the menue it was a HOMEMADE green tea-flavored mascarpone cheese cake, and immediately went for it. As you guessed it, it was a huge letdown. The tiramisu was a mushed-together green Jell-O without the green tea flavor and the between layer was so saggy to the point that jell-o on top was heavy enough to start compressing the layer!! And the fact you can't taste any green tea flavoring (not even a hint) was shocking.

I have been a patron of Daruma since they opened in 1986. It is one of the better Japanese restaurants I have visited in the US, and that would include Hawaii and San Francisco. This is saying something, given the fact that there is not an ocean nearby. The sushi is always exceptionally fresh and of the highest grade and quality. The Japanese sushi chef/owner/operator is very particular about what selections of fish he will serve.Daruma caters to Japanese business professionals that either work at or come in from Japan to do business with various Japanese organizations in the Schaumburg area. I highly recommend it if you want an authentic Japanese food experience. The atmosphere is also authentic, and much of the wait staff speaks Japanese.Tatami rooms are also available.Delicious!

Fantastic food! Sushi is pricier than most sushi restaurants but for good reason. The amount of fish you get per piece is 2-3 times more than most restaurants and the quality is fantastic. Literally the best sushi I've ever had. Also highly recommend the other menu items like the Tonkatsu dinner!
