Rose Bowl-Aritas

“The Rose Bowl is an icon in the dive bar, history of Urbana. The Rose Bowl is one of the few places that still offers regular live music. They have a good selection of beers and whiskeys, and a great interesting crowd for people watching. There is convenient parking, and it's a not to be missed place if you want to experience the real dive bar culture of Urbana - champaign Illinois.“

Loose Cobra Bar • $
113 E Main St, Tolono - 8.74 miles

“Great vibe, awesome people, and good cheap drinks. Matt’s a super cool guy who makes good cocktails, but he likes Rush a little too much. Impressive vinyl collection. No regrets making it down here for a wicked night and Matt was rad enough to drive us back to our hotel at the end of the night when Uber let us down, but like don’t ask him to do that.“

Central Tavern Bar • $
403 Main St, Thomasboro

“Located in scenic Thomasboro. Actually, located in the heart of scenic Thomasboro. This is a bar, not unlike any other bar you would find in a town that has but one or two bars. It's got that hint of musty water damage, that you will find in old buildings. A subtle je ne sais quoi, that just makes a small town bar be a small town bar. You can't put your finger on it, but why are they ... exactly what they are? Is it the NASCAR logos throughout the place? Is it the can or bottle of beer that they never sold, but got one bottle of (in this case, Kentucky Horse Piss) (oddly enough, I have an empty bottle of KHP on display with the rest of the bottles at Kridz). Is it the 3 logos? Is it the neon for bud light or miller lite? There's the exact same sights, sounds, smells, and feels of almost every other small town bar. Would I call it a "dive bar", no. For it to be that, there would have to be competition in the same town. This is just "small town bar". Comparing it to CU, yes, this is a dive. But there is no comparison to CU. THIS IS THOMASBORO!!! The prices here are fantastic. It's nearly cheaper to drink here than to drink at the house. Take cash, or use the ATM. Probably easier to just take cash. Go here, you will love it. You may not feel like you are completely welcome on your first visit, but strike up a conversation with the bartender, the next time you go in, it'll be your home bar. Including with the smell of your basement that is mildewed because your sump pump went out the last time that there was a hard rain and you had 3 inches in the basement.“

Green Street Cafe Bar • $
35 E Green St, Champaign

“Went here during the summer and it had a very relaxed atmosphere, exactlywhat I was looking for in a hookah lounge. It is pretty barebones except for a few couches and booths. The staff might be the best part though. The guy we had was a great story teller and was on the ball when it came to adjusting coals.“

Brass Rail Bar • $
15 E University Ave, Champaign

“I had not been in the Brass Rail in years. We went to celebrate a friend’s birthday. It was a great atmosphere and cleaned up to the point where you would certainly take your Mom there, but they kept it authentic and the classic Bar atmosphere. They only have bar pizza, but do yourself a favor and try the cheesy garlic bread. Oh also try the Squint, their “Signature” drink. This will for sure be my new spot when I am in Champaign.“

Illini Inn Bar • $
901 S 4th St, Champaign

“Stopped in with my boyfriend who is an alum and hasn't been to visit campus in about 10 years. He has fond college memories at the Illini Inn so we stopped in to check it out. Looks like a completely new building from the time he was there, but he still enjoyed being there to re-live a little. It's a good stop for a quick beer with the typical college student nonsense going on all around you, even in November when it's freezing cold outside!“
