“I had a great experience at this restaurant!The staff was incredibly friendly and took the time to explain the menu, highlighting their specials and recommendations.We started with the summer roll, and the sauce was definitely the highlight - it was so flavorful!Our favorite dish was the Lava Chicken; it was incredibly crunchy, and the portion size was perfect for sharing.We also tried the special for Chinese New Year, and while the sauce and noodles were tasty, we felt it could have used more vegetables.Overall, the price was reasonable, and the atmosphere was simple but welcoming.Highly recommend trying this place out!“
“I had the Omakase on 2/10/24. It was, without a doubt, the best dining experience I have had in years. Ken is an expert and extremely gracious host. His knowledge and explanation of the dishes as well as the casual and extremely enjoyable conversation made this a dinner to remember.This was my first visit to Ishi & Kaori and I have already told my friends about it. We are currently checking our calendars for future months in hopes of another experience. I hope to come back soon for the regular menu, as well as another Omakase.“
“The food and service is excellent! Wait times are usually long and expected due to the quality of food but after waiting over two hours for a table to celebrate a birthday, it would have been appropriate for them to tell us that their liquor license hadn’t been reactivated post COVID before they actually seated us. We would have found another restaurant with alcohol since a birthday celebration. I felt they should have been more forthright. So be aware! They had delicious cocktails and sake pre-Covid!“
“Fast service. Good ingredients. They have a lot of seafood, so I assume most of it is imported or frozen, which obviously won't beat fresh seafood, but very good for Champaign-Urbana area. I would recommend for anyone wanting a quick meal.“
“We got the teriyaki-chicken dinner box. It was pretty good and filling. I would’ve liked more chicken then rice but besides that I really enjoyed this meal. The price was a little high but I would still come back.The setting was a little small and not like the pictures from other reviews.“
“You're going to have a hard time finding a better hibachi place. and I've been to a ton of hibachi places. This is definitely tied for my favorite of all time. Seriously, this is consistently one of the best. And although I always come here for the hibachi, the shrimp on fire roll probably one of the best sushi rolls you will ever have as well.“

My friends and I didn't have to wait long for our food, but even if we had, there's so much in this place to look at that I'm sure the time would have flown right by. This is the place to go if you want a real "hole in the wall" restaurant experience with fantastic food to boot. Also gotta appreciate the moxie of the owners for just straight up arguing with the people who leave bad reviews. It's hilarious and feels so much more human and genuine than those businesses that try and kiss up to anyone who comes into their place. “We went for lunch after the Christmas weekend. We ordered agadasi tofu from the appetizer menu, i believe; which is deep-fried tofu in a umami sauce, and i absolutely loved it. It was so flavourful. It was my first time tasting deep-fried tofu, so i had my doubts. But it's 100% recommended to try, i know I'm gonna have it again. Then, for main course, we had salmon teriyaki bento box and tempura udon. Both were delicious. Salmon bento box was nicely arranged and proportion wise very good size. I had to share with my husband as i couldn't finish everything. Tempura udon was also good size. It came with shrimp and veggie (squash and zucchini- we think) tempura. Udon was flavorful and tasty. Food was hot and service was very nice. The restaurant is very clean and well organized. Nice ambiance.
