I ordered online. When ordering, it asked how I was planning on paying, and one of the choices was cash. I chose that option.When I got to the restaurant to pick up my order, it was not filled. I showed a man my phone showing I ordered it with the cash option. He stated I didn't pay when ordering. Therefore, my order wasn't filled. I told him I chose the cash option, and he said it needed to be paid by a credit/debit card when you order online. I asked then why there was a cash option. He said that is just the way the company they use puts that on the online ordering but really didn't give me an answer why they had a cash option if you can't choose it. Again, he said that is just the way that that company has as an option.I would never have placed an online order if I couldn't use the cash option.No one even offered any type of discount or complimentary chips for the inconvenience it caused me because I had to wait for an order that should have been ready.Also, the man had the nerve to laugh at me because I didn't pay for the order online. It will be a VERY LONG TIME IF I EVER go back again.

I ordered a ham and Swiss sandwich. The bread seemed to be soft and fresh. Ham was your basic polish Krakus type of ham (Boars Head). There was way too much mayo. I had to scape it off. Had I known I would've asked for easy mayo. Between the ham and the cheese there was a minimal amount. The sandwich was just OK. It wasn't bad. The service was super friendly. The lady was very very nice and they made the sandwich quickly. I ordered the soup which originally I thought it was cream of chicken rice but I misread it and it was broth soup which was fine. It was good. I had asked for a lemon to squeeze into it being that I'm Greek and that's what we do. But surprisingly, they did not have any lemons.I was originally going to order an Italian sub, but I learned that they use Italian dressing which a true Chicago Italian sun that's a no no. It should be separate oil, vinegar and oregano. So I chose the ham and cheese.

I liked this place. It’s a sandwich shop but they have a good variety and Boars head is decent deli meat. Prices are reasonable. They could use a better drink selection. But service was good and fast. Bread was fresh and plenty of meat on the sandwich.
Halsted Deli Vernon Hills is close to my workplace and many of the employees at HydraForce stop there for lunch because the sandwiches and soup are so great. I was there with a co-worker, ordering my usual Mermaid. I put my tray down to get a soda (instead of bringing it to a table first, as I should have done!) and the tray fell on the floor, dumping my sandwich. I starting picking it up, and before I was even done, two of the staff were at my side assisting me and the manager even gave me a replacement sandwich, without my even asking! I was soooo embarrassed I didn't even know what to say. So I'm writing this review to say THANKS SO MUCH not just for the great food but for the KINDNESS. It's like Cheers - everybody knows your name . . . and what you are going to order! Love Hallsted Deli and will always come back for more!

I used to work here in high school and college. The owner and the staff has always been so kind. Now I come when I’m back in town. My husband and I went in after the passing of my dog for some comfort food, and of course their matzah ball soup cheered me right up. In fact, I think their matzah balls are the best I’ve ever had. Santiago, Nancy, and Dave are great people; their place is always clean; and their food is always the best. Can’t recommend enough!
