Outsider Bar • $
104 S Market St, Waterloo

“This long narrow bar was Packed full of people the night before Christmas Eve. We were a large party celebrating a 21st birthday doing the Waterloo Pub Crawl. We squeezed in, got the two bartenders attention and were provided great service. Then we headed outside to sit by the fire pit out in the fresh air, due to Covid. The place was decorated for Christmas. This is certainly a popular watering hole! You can even buy a t-shirt!“

Fried Pickle

“Great place to go or meet with friends. Large out bldg is perfect for large gatherings. It is an open air concept with a large bar and many tables with seating for small or bigger groups. The original bar bldg has a small, covered porch area for outdoor seating with an uncovered party pad with a couple picnic tables around back. The inside bar area is quaint and clean. Two bathrooms, a large U-shaped bar that wraps around by the kitchen and on the other side, 4 gaming machines. Nice bar out in the middle of nowhere between Millstadt, near Paderborn. Good times!Parking: Large number of parking spots in rear of bar, on the side of the pole barn.“

Ace’s Wild Bar •
208 N Main St Suite G, Columbia - 7.94 miles

“What a great barlor! Alex does a great job running the town bar. It’s a great place to hang out, have a beer, or throw a party. Although they have no draught beer, they have a ton of bottle choices. They also have pizzas and they are really good. Staff are always friendly and the bar has been newly expanded. There are five slot machines to play while you hang out. And the bathrooms are always clean. Definitely worth checking out.“

Hank & Lilly's Fountain Inn Pubs • $
1912 Fountain Rd, Valmeyer - 7.45 miles

“Apparently in Southern Illinois, the "thing" you do is called Jeeping. When my friends Beth and Nathan invited my boyfriend and I to voyage across the river to their hometown to go Jeeping, we were both afraid, then petrified... but when we pulled into the Fountain Inn, we knew we could survive. I LOVE bars like the Fountain Inn. Unpretentious. Made for locals. And a bar where Michelob Ultra is considered a "hoity toity" beer. But the Fountain Inn was far from a dive. While the exterior of the building may look a little worn, the interior was recently renovated and updated. They even had a roomba to sweep the floor! How high tech. The flow of the bar was open and airy with lots of places to sit and enjoy a cold one on a nice warm day. Outside of the Fountain Inn, there's tons of seating. It was easy to keep your distance. There was also a stage set up with a man in overalls playing a little too much Johnny Cash. But I didn't care. It was live music and Nathan kept the $2 Stag beers coming. I didn't mind the drive from Soulard to the Fountain Inn. It made for a really relaxing mini-day trip.“

“This local pub draws a lot of regulars as well as the occasional visitor like me. They have daily food specials. Corned beef with all usual was featured the day of our visit since it was St Pats Day!! Sunday they feature their fried chicken (always on the menu but a reduced price on Sunday). We had 7 of us and 2 ordered the chicken. It is good! My selection was the chicken pot pie. It had an even mixture of veggies and chicken- big pieces of chicken too. The crust is only on the top and a bit thinner than what I typically see but still it was pretty good. I was curious about the fried bologna sandwich so I ordered one to cut up as an appetizer for the table. It was yummy of course. Horrible for you but yummy. Portions here tend toward the larger side. Our service was fair- waitress was friendly but very forgetful. Bar staff is also outgoing and happy to help. They have a good beer selection, full bar of spirits but limited wine options. But at least they have wine!“

“I can say the food was excellent, and not overpriced. I will look forward to coming back here every time I go back home through Columbia to play disc golf at Konarcik Park in Waterloo, one of the most fun disc golf courses I have ever played. I love this place, and it is going to be my new tradition. You rock!“
