Our first time visiting Taste of Belize and we were not disappointed! This restaurant was referred to us by a client who gave it a stellar review. We ordered the Jerk Chicken dinner with rice and beans and cabbage (It also came with plantains) along with a side of curry goat. Everything was outstanding!! The jerk chicken was so tender and the goat so flavourful! The portions satisfied both me and my husband. I also have to give a shout out to the gentleman who took our order as he was warm, welcoming, and eager to serve us.If you are looking for a good home-cooked carribean meal provided with excellent service and a smile, try Taste of Belize in Waukegan!

The owner and her staff are so sweet and kind! I will definitely be back.

This is our go to spot when we’re craving food from Belize. The beef patty is phenomenal and it’s a must get with every order. Fried chicken, jerk chicken, all ?. We’re working our way through the menu, and everything we get hits the spot.

The oxtail is definitely where it’s at. The food is always hot and consistent. The patties, Mac n cheese and yams are some of my favorite sides. Food here tastes like home. I drive from Chicago for this place.

Where on earth have you ever been served Mac & cheese with rice and beans. The meat was tasteless, no coconut milk in the rice & beans. This place really needs some help.

I don't know why i keep going back but everything i go they end up disappointing me. Just went in today for a jerk chicken meal and extra side of potato salad.. potato salad was very very rancid. Literally as i opened it you could smell the bad in the potato salad..

I've driven past several times and never paid any attention. Tucked back off the street in a strip mall you wouldn't notice it. Enter the business and it's not the most up to date and the appearance is lack luster. My first visit they were out of Goat so I went with Jerk...when I heard the microwave in the background I should have canceled my order. Any restaurant that microwaves meat should be shut down lol

Got the jerk chicken with cabbage. The chicken had great flavor and was tender. It was juuuust a tad dry, otherwise this would have been 5 stars. The cabbage was amazing. The employee was prompt and kind.

I usually get the jerk chicken with the steamed cabbage side. Full of flavor. The sweet fried plantains finish off the dish well. Since one spends almost $17 (before tip) for just the meal... no dessert or drink, I make two meals out of my order, even though it's so good I could stuff myself in one sitting with the whole thing. There's a little container of dark sauce included... put that on the generous portion of beans and rice... it is so-oo good! They also include a small container of a spicy, pickled minced onion... that's yum, too! Recently, I splurged and got the oxtail dish. That is also very good, but at $22 a pop I'll only get it once in a while. My only issue with the oxtail is that four "bones" for $22 seems a bit stingy. Six bones would be better, then I can get 2 meals for my money. Great place for take out. "Dine in" means four stools at a counter by a window... no wait staff... tiny customer waiting and eating area. Still, I love the food, staff are friendly. Wait time is usually less than 15 minutes, especially if you order early, like between 4:30-5 PM. BTW: don't go into the slots place 2 doors down... it's got a "criminal", unsavory vibe, and you have to be let in by security... plus, there was a security guy standing around weilding a night-stick along with equally questionable clientele.... too bad the restaurant is right there next to this.

I got the chicken stew and it was great. The chicken was hot and very tender and the flavor of the potato salad was fresh. I will definitely be returning.

Beware, what is advertised might not be what you are served. Purchased a dozen (12) of their meat pies. Got home and realized each pie had about a quarter tea spoon of meat and the rest of the filling was air. Total ripoff! Laughable that filling of an advertised meat pie is 3% meat, 97% air. Called restaurant just to make sure they were aware. They told me that this is how they make their pies. No shame in their bait and switch game. It should be called air pie or baked dough!
