The grilled chicken tacos were the worst I've ever had. They had no flavor. They're dry and obviously sitting in the window for awhile bc the cheese was melted. Only thing good was the chips and salsa along with Strawberry Watermelon Margarita on the rocks. I will come back to this one again. The one Merrillville is way better.

This is a nice cozy place tucked off from the main street. It's located in a plaza with ample parking. Perfectly priced and nice portions! Our bill was $54 bucks, and we purchased the Jalisco chicken tacos, huge beer on tap, California Steak Burrito, and queso dip. Great energy in the restaurant and the food came out quickly. The restaurant booths are very roomy and intimate. My only complaint was the queso dip was a bit watery and the steak was very chewy. But that won't stop me from coming back. Great place!!

Another Disappointing El Saltos Experience: I used to be a regular at El Salto's in Chesterton with my wife, but we often felt like something was missing from our dining experiences here. One major issue we encountered was the lack of flavor and seasoning in their dishes, which was a recurring disappointment. Additionally, the portion sizes for the meat options felt skimpy most of the time. On my recent visit, I decided to try the Burrito California, which, appearance-wise, looked fantastic. However, the flavor was still lacking the authentic Mexican taste and seasoning that we were hoping for. While the chips were good and clearly not store-bought, the salsa was surprisingly bland, tasting more like tomato sauce. The margarita I ordered was quite sour, and it was evident that it was made from a pre-made mix. Next time, I'll opt for a real authentic handshake and margarita. On the positive side, the restaurant itself was clean, and the staff provided speedy and efficient service. The restroom facilities were also well-maintained. If you're seeking truly authentic Mexican cuisine, there are several other options in Northwest Indiana. If you're willing to venture outside of Chesterton, Chicago is always a great spot. However, if you prefer to stay local, El Cantarito remains our top choice for authentic Mexican flavors in the area.

Stopped in with some coworkers for dinner. Sat at the bar. Food was really good and Shay, the bartender, was the best. Definitely going to make this a regular place to eat when I'm in the area.

We go on Wednesdays for their margarita(I order the superfruit flavor) special and pair it with their fajitas(Texanas- steak, chicken, & shrimp is my favorite). They get such a great caramelized flavor on the meat and veggies. Yum! The queso dip is a must as well. So delicious! I am bummed that they're closed on Mondays though. Our server Luis always takes such good care of us! Thank you!Kid-friendliness: There is a kid's menu available
My husband & I have been eating here for more than 10 years.Despite having moved an hour away and exploring all the new El Salto restaurants, this is still our favorite! The atmosphere here is always amazing and we always get great service!Thank you Chesterton El Salto's! ? ?
