Food is fantastic, all made in house. A blend of Hawaiian and Irish. Drinks are great. Everything from sweet and tropical to interesting savory/spices type affairs. Owners are interactive, friendly, and informative. Decor appears "generic tiki" until you start paying attention. Much is art hand made by the cook. Sound levels are at a nice relaxed volume so you can hold a conversation. TVs are usually playing classic timeless black and white broadcasts(3 stooges is popular) and music is a blend of classic crooners to postmodern jukebox. You're not drowning in a tacky theme, but seeing a reflection of the owners. And that's refreshing.

Visited a few weeks ago with a large party, all ordered different things and shared food. EVERYTHING was delicious! I drink beer but the others that had cocktails loved their drinks as well! Our server and bartender were fast and friendly and we absolutely loved the vibe! They were cash only then but I see they now have their credit card system up and running. I look forward to seeing what fun events they plan this summer. We will definitely be back!

Came in sat down completely empty asked my 35 year old pregnant wife for an id than asked us to leave because she did not have an id she did have a copy of it on her phone but they still asked us to leave I felt it was unfair not like she was drinking while pregnant just a thought wishing we could of tried the

This place is fun. I did not get photos because it was relatively dark. A few notes to start - 21+ and cash only. The chocolate cake shots are a must try. All the food I tried was good - stuffed dates, platter, chicken skewers, hula rice, all tasty. The only thing I was missing (and maybe I just needed to order differently) was a nice, bright, crunchy salad or something. But this was a fun place to meet up with some friends and enjoy some drinks and food.

Everyone has there opinion. I’ll start with the owner she was really nice talkative. However the food was not good I had chicken legs which I didn’t even finish. I also had egg rolls they were oook. My drink didn’t even match the picture was about half the size when it was served to me and I didn’t enjoy it. I felt the decor was very cheap for the prices they were asking. The menu looked as though it came from the dollar store. Prices were on green sticker dots with black marker. Love the concept but I personally think it needs a lot of work. But at the end of the day I do wish them the best of luck.

I have no idea where these 5 star reviews come from! The food is really gross and the drinks are just sugar bombs. This supposedly 21+ establishment had little kids running around from behind the curtained off areas. The theming is all over the place and isn't anywhere near cohesive. Another dud for this location.
Great new spot in Chesterton. It is located on Indiana Boundary just off I-94 and very close to the Dunes National Park entrance. My wife and I stopped in for drinks on a Friday night and really enjoyed ourselves. The bar was short staffed, but the bartender on duty did a wonderful job keeping with orders as the place filled up. It was a great social atmosphere and we made a few new friends at the bar as well. The drinks were delicious! The majority of their drinks are in the $9-12 range. Well worth the price. They are good sized and everything we had definitely packed a punch. They're not holding back on the liquor! Definitely worth the price if you're comparing it to some tiki bar options in Chicago. Between the 2 of us, we enjoyed the Tiki Style, Tiki Zombie, McTropic and Volcano Swing. My favorite was the Tiki Style. We did also enjoy an order of their TLD Tots because, well tots! It also happened to be National Tater Tot Day. We had to order them! And they were delicious. Really good seasoning! We'll definitely be back to Velvet Tiki! Great new date night spot for us close to home in Chesterton.

The food and cocktails were delicious. We went on a week night on purpose. We like to try out the new food/entertainment restaurants in our area. We also like to meet and talk to the owners. We really enjoyed talking to them and hearing their vision, understanding it is new and needs time to grow. We truly enjoyed and believe it will be a fun addition to the Chesterton area. A Warm Escape at Velvet Tiki in Chesterton After a miserable snowstorm day, I decided to seek refuge at the Velvet Tiki in Chesterton. My goal wasn't a hearty meal, just a chance to experience the place and enjoy a cocktail and appetizer. I approached Misty, the owner, and asked for a traditional margarita to set the Tiki mood, and I must say, it was a delicious "Rita" that hit the spot perfectly. For my appetizer, Frank recommended the brisket sliders, and they turned out to be a delightful surprise, served in a Hawaiian roll. The slaw was equally delicious and added a burst of flavor to the experience. I'm already looking forward to returning for a proper dinner to explore the rest of the menu. The staff here is incredibly friendly, and the service is speedy. The restaurant is clean and impressively spacious, creating a comfortable atmosphere. Plus, the restrooms are clean, which is always a plus. Velvet Tiki has left a great first impression, and I can't wait to return for a more extensive dining experience. If you're in Chesterton, don't miss the chance to visit this welcoming spot. I recommend this restaurant.
