We found this place on our way to Raleigh, NC from Chicago. Stopped here after reading reviews online. TRUST THE REVIEWS that say this place is good...IT IS GOOD! We just moved to the Chicago area from South Texas, so we know good Mexican food and this place does not disappoint! If you are anywhere near Gary Indiana, you have to stop in to Chela's. It's not fancy at all, but is very clean and the prices are good. We had the Birria Tacos, chips and salsa and several different meat tacos. Then, on our way back from North Carolina, we stopped in again! My fiance thinks this is the best Mexican food outside of Texas. THAT'S saying something! We can't wait to go back!

This place gave me fake money as change and they didn’t give me a receipt so that I wouldn’t be able to prove it was fake. This messed up guy on the phone literally said can’t prove they gave me fake money as change so they can’t help me. It’s really messed up they would cheat a paying customer just cause they took in fake money. Do Not go here they are rude and liars and thieves!

First time eating here today. Food was amazing and exceeded expectations. The Birria tacos were tasty. Everything was good. The restaurant is very clean and very nice atmosphere overall. Unfortunately, they do not serve alcohol here anymore though. The customer service here is really good too. Will definitely be coming back for more Birria tacos soon. Prices are a lil pricey but definitely worth the food

Dont let the outside scare you away. This small family run business was nice on the inside. The street tacos and rice were delicious and generous in portion. The owner and family were very gracious and friendly. This is my new go to for street tacos. Can't wait to try their other offerings.
