My brother and I wanted to meet somewhere between Ft Wayne and Indy, to celebrate a birthday. As I filtered "breakfast 4.5+ stars" around the Gas City area, I got quite a few hits, but there was soomthin' about Phil & Cheryl's that caught my attention.Namely, it was all the reviews that mentioned the friendly atmosphere and good food at a reasonable price. We were looking for an unassuming mom & pop diner where we could have a relaxed conversation and enjoy breakfast together. We soon found out that this is definitely a favorite amongst the locals, and in conversing with our waitress, she has been serving here for 40 years and knows everyone by name. Though we were the newcomers, she treated us like old friends. So here you see the spread that we enjoyed: in the foreground is the Chad Omelette, which is 3 eggs and has sausage, onion, and hash browns inside and delicious sausage gravy on top. If it looks gi-normous in the photo, that's because it is, and is delicious. It is served with either white or wheat toast, and jelly. We each got a bowl of grits, which are on the right. You'll notice that these grits are made with yellow cornmeal, which is a departure from what I'm used to, but nonetheless delicious and was served piping hot.In the distance is the Trash Can Panda omelette, which is also humongous and has a variety of meats and bell pepper. At the center of the table are three slices of fried mush which each are about the size of an iphone... much larger serving than I expected. So needless to say, after a nice long chat (our waitress made sure to keep our coffee cups topped off) we waddled out of there quite satisfied.Hats off to the kind folks that run this place! By the way, this is a cash or check restaurant.. they don't take plastic. No problem for us though!

I decided to give this place one last chance. Last time I got carry out, I witnessed a cook wipe his nose with his hand and continue to cook. This time, the drive thru is blocked. There is a reason I do carry out and going in to get pick up my order is not it. This place has gone to hell since being under new ownership. Used to be the best place in grant county for breakfast. I only gave 1 star because there isn't an option for zero.BTW , the little girl with the annoying voice should have told me that the drive thru was closed. And she said " YUP, BYE" when I told her thank you.Parking: Parking is horrible. That's most likely due to the new owners nit picking with Sabo over property lines so Sabo blocked off his lot ???

Well I guess expecting a clean table is too much to expect .. Rude waitstaff /cashier...For a.small town kinda diner this defiantly doesn't have it ...hours is wonky ...only 5 hours a day no wonder I thought this place was abandoned for the last 5 years ... has plenty of potential .. 5 am to 2 pm would be far better hours ..

The biscuits & gravy are always the best in town yet this past visit there was no sausage in it. Next time I will say as my request "biscuits" with "sausage gravy" ?

Great down home cooking, friendly service, speedy service, and the most reasonable prices around. We took our adult son for first time a few weeks ago and he asked if the prices were wrong, ha. The only small issues are the hours of operation, they close early and they are very small inside area.
