If you have ever been in the metropolitan Detroit area, you're familiar with Coney Island joints. If you're a Detroiter, I'll sum it up here: For the Detroit area, this would be a better than average Coney. The hot dogs are way above average, and the chili tastes authentic, and they stock a variety of Faygo products. Fries are good, but more peppery than most. The restaurant is small/cozy, obviously old. Clean, but the building could use significant TLC. The neighborhood, in Detroit, would be east of 8 Mile. Expect only counter service. 2 Coney's, fries, and a can of pop will cost you $10, and you will be very full afterwards. If you're not from Detroit - A Coney dog is a hot dog with mild chili, onions, and mustard. (I'll spare you a Detroit history lesson. But New Yorkers will have to keep in mind that a "Coney Island" will not bear much resemblance to anything that "self-respecting" hot dog connoisseurs eat in New York. Such people can get a plain, grilled hot dog with mustard here.) It's a high quality dog. My Detroit nostalgia may prevent me from being objective, but I think they're better than Portillos, and about a dead heat with the best in town. And, yes, since you probably think of Faygo as "cheap" or "generic" instead of nostalgic, they do have Coke products too. It's not haute cuisine. It's workingman's food. It's cheap, tasty, filling, and horrible for your cholesterol count. Go in expecting this, and you won't be disappointed.Vegetarian options: They have french fries. That's the only vegetarian option that I remember.Parking: A shared parking lot, kind of awkward to navigate.Kid-friendliness: If your kid will eat a hot dog or chicken strips, you'll be fine. I don't see a kids menu as a necessity.Wheelchair accessibility: It will be awkward. I'm sure they would come to the door and help you, if asked.

Went by for lunch today based on very strong reviews but found that they are closed until early next year for remodeling at least that's what the sign on the door said

BEST MF GLIZZY INNA STATE. Hands down, could not believe how good the Detroit Dog was. Some of the best sodas you’ve been missing since your childhood. It’s always a good meal. Make sure you visit and support local black business!

Such a little hole in the wall, but cute little place. The gentleman at the counter were awesome and so polite. It was my first time there and I ordered the Coney Island special with two coneys and fries and a drink. It's an excellent deal the fries are delicious and smokin hot and the dogs look delicious though messy, which is the way you want them. I hopefully will make it back soon.

I found the place to be overrated. just average chili cheese hot dogs. 2 of them were $10. Can make 10 chili cheese dogs at home same quality and taste for less

Chucks is good. I had a coney with onions and relish and fries. The place is unusual in that it is on a ramp. I was impressed that it was very clean but strictly take out. There are 2 tables on level ground bu if you want to sit at the counter you will be leaning to your left. The coney was good. The hot dog was still not the dog I got at Junk Yard Dogs but I've pretty much given up.ever seeing that again. The fries would have been fantastic if they had seen some salt straight out of the fryer, but they were still worth the trip. All in all I will go back when I'm in the neigh borhood.

I was just at this place and the owner and the food is awesome. You have to go here, I drove from Carmel, Indiana and it was worth the drive. I will be back and I encourage you to try this place. I WILL BE BACK AGAIN, AGAIN AND AGAIN.
