My cousin suggested El Mezcal for my birthday on Saturday March 9th. I was a bit skeptical based on previous reviews, but my cousin had assured me that she had frequented this location several times with no issues. She also mentioned that they were under new management as of 6-8 months ago. I feel like Indy is very oversaturated with several Mexican restaurants and many are mediocre at best. They cater to certain clientele instead of staying true to the authenticity of what true Mexican food is. This location did have a few tex/mex options like their queso, but aside from that I felt it was pretty authentic and my food was super flavorful. A friend of mine suggested Mexican food again last night and I was skeptical about trying this location as I felt it wouldn’t be the same. I was sadly mistaken and it was just as good last night as it was Saturday and our servers both times were great. Both days I ordered the Steak Mexicano medium well and when I tell you that steak was super tender and flavorful and the veggies were sautéed to perfection. The beans (frijoles refritos) were the right consistency as well. And not pureed like most other restaurants serve. Just an FYI, pureed beans is not what refried beans should look like. lol. My son ordered quesadillas both times, but last night ordered the quesadilla Guadalajara. It was huge and had a mix of Shrimp, Steak & Chicken. My son is a growing 9 yr old, so can usually finish his food,but actually got full and saved the rest for another day.Signed,A Blaxican in Indy. lol

This place is great! We drove up and they were playing music from speakers outside the restaurant. Fun! The decor is so cute & festive. Our server greeted us right away. We ordered choriqueso & a super burro with asada. Both were really good. The salsa with chips is nothing special so I'm glad we ordered the queso. I had a Mango margarita which was tasty & huge! Our server was very attentive. We'd definitely come back!

My first review of this place was awful! They truly stepped up their customer service and attitude! Good food!
Seems to be racist with African Americans! Pretty much was just profiled upon walking through the door by guy at the bar. Very rude and didn’t even understand much English. I guess good service and kindness is only for Hispanic people at this location. I walked out!

The “server” finally came out and with the laziest attitude ever. We ordered the simplest food and although the serving size was good, the taste was NOT. Meat tasted on the verge of going bad and DRY. Food lasted warm for five second big red flag a microwave was used. All the other servers there were lounging around on their phones in plain view with full blown conversations. Then you can hear them talking bad about the customers, WOW!! NEVER GOING BACK!!

The “server” finally came out and with the laziest attitude ever. We ordered the simplest food and although the serving size was good, the taste was NOT. Meat tasted on the verge of going bad and DRY. Food lasted warm for five second big red flag a microwave was used. All the other servers there were lounging around on their phones in plain view with full blown conversations. Then you can hear them talking bad about the customers, WOW!! NEVER GOING BACK!!

Do not pay online for your order! I did this and they had no record of my order but it was debited out of my account (even though the waiter said it wasn't). I showed the waiter that they indeed took the money for my online order and I was told to call my bank. I'm sure El Mezcal's management could have reversed this and saved me some trouble. You guys need to remove the option to pay if it is not valid. Not to be dramatic but it feels like theft. My bank is going to fix this but again, it shouldn't have been my problem if it is an error on your part.

AWEFUL! One star only because ZERO is not an option. Awful food. The arroz con pollo was lacking flavor. Cheese was very watery. Bean burrito tortilla was dry and tasted like it was pulled straight from the bag and never cooked. The Margaritas-lemon water!!!! The presentation was equally underwhelming. Margaritas not served in a typical margarita glass. Overall a no go for me. (And for what it’s worth the prices are high for what you get). Friday night and no one is here.
