First of all, we went on Saturday the 23rd of September and they weren't even located in the building that was listed on Google. Won't try to find them again.

Everytime we come to Indy Maxine's is a must stop for us. The food was lip smacking good as always, but I miss the old location as it was more of a restaurant vibe as opposed to the new location in the city market, but MAKE NO MISTAKE the food is ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS regardless of where it's located. Can't wait to go back.

I've loved Maxine's for forever but this was my first time visiting at City market since they moved here. The menu has been scaled back. No more amazing fried potatoes (they were the Best in town) but the chicken (tenders) and waffle (sweet potato) did Not disappoint!! The two man team was great and so friendly. Definitely spend the extra $1 to get the sweet potato waffle and of course the peach butter is still phenomenal! We got there at 10:30 on a Saturday morning so not too busy and very little wait.

It was early and they were not yet open when they saw my wife and I lurking at the front counter. When I inquired when they would open, I was told they would be open in about an hour. The owner must’ve noted the hunger in my voice and stated that if we wanted the Chicken n’ Waffles he could serve us immediately. We got the food and it was spectacular. The chicken was crunchy but not overly breaded. It was seasoned well and moist. The waffle was light and had an amazing texture to it. Topped with their famous peach butter, I didn’t use any syrup. It was a great eating experience.During our meal we started talking to the owner and the other cook. We discovered that they were not open yet because they were preparing three different catering jobs for a total of about 400 people. While they were still working, they took the time to explain the restaurant’s history and even slipped a sample of yams to us (these are pie worthy waiting on the crust). We discovered that the current owner was an educator (my wife is a 30 year education vet) and he took over the business once the original owner, his grandmother Maxine, feel ill.The story of the food is worth the trip here BUT the quality of the food and service that is provided is worth your money. I felt a warmth in not only my belly, but in my heart as well. I don’t know if I’ve ever wanted to see an establishment succeed like I want them to. Do yourself a favor and get yourself some of this!

A delicious find! Cannot recommend the chicken tenders and waffles enough, if only so that you can experience their peach butter! A+!

Got chicken and waffles and two sides the chicken as you can see in the picture is tiny. For some reason they threw some sugar and cinnamon on top of the sweet potato’s and the greens were dry and undercooked. The candied sweet potato’s would’ve been good if they hadn’t thrown extra sugar on top and the chicken had good flavor even though they were small.

Food was horrible. I got the salmon croquettes with grits and fried green tomatoes. The fried green tomatoes were saturated in grease and the first set of salmon croquettes were so over cooked on the outside that they were undone on the inside. I posted a picture of the second batch. After that I just threw it away. A waste of time and money.

We went to the new location, most definitely would go back. I guess we entered through the main entrance (they are located on the left) Chicken wings and sides are fire.

They should have never left their previous location. This is a poor version of what Maxine’s was really like years ago. The quality of this ala cart is not satisfying. Families can’t even go there after church and enjoy a great meal. I’m done. Maxine is turning in her grave. A poor representation of her legacy..

Wings was so good,it makes you want to slap your momma. Peach butter was the bomb, slang for good y'all. Waffles soft and hot with warm syrup. Staff was cool in a hoodie way. Black people need to work on their social skills in business. Feel like you want to serve people. Good customer service keeps you paying the bills.??✌️Dietary restrictions: None

Chicken seasoned to perfection. Waffle wasn't as whole as I would've liked it. Missing flavor to match with the chicken.

I truly miss the original location. One has the wonder why they left and went here instead? The food quality seems to have gone down a little bit as well. One thing that I really didn't like was there was no prices on the chalkboard menu. So you're left to guess or ask how much everything cost. Why not just write down the cost of everything? We dropped $33 before a tip for lunch. So it's not exactly a cheap lunch. But the food was delicious it was very hot, but the old Maxines I would give five stars this one kind of middle of the road.

I've eaten Chicken & Waffles just about everywhere I've traveled in the US. Other than the Southern States, they weren't very popular until 2000. These are, without a doubt, the best in Indiana. Not to spicy but spicy enough. One of the biggest things I miss about being retired and no longer working downtown in Indy.

Try the chicken tender and waffles combo with Mac and cheese side.
