the place looked old and run down as well too much consideration for older in taste with what looked to be the elderly instead of the young people and the place itself gives off ominous vibes a little with people too at least add something that a younger person wouldn't feel so nauseated with.

I really did not want to write this review. The more i thought about it an stewed over it the meal i felt i had too. The reservation for 12 was made for 2pm at 2:30ish we where finally seated. for more then 30 min we sat there waiting for a drink order to be taken to the point i actually left went to a gas station an bought a few diet cokes an returned in time to still order my meal.then as they where ordering the meal no drinks where offered other then coffee / tea / water ... and none where listed on the menu and as hour first time there we just thought they did not serve them.about 10 min after the orders where placed our waitress finally asked us what drinks we would like with our meal.. this has been over an hour sitting at the table at this point the time was rough 3:30 ...the bus boy / waiter was trying to fill up water cups an spilt water on my wife .. which things happen .. but it might not have happened had he not been dangling a headphone cord from his ear. He also reached for the glasses an took them off the table with his hands around the lip of the cups where people put there mouths .. an after all the dirty dishes an plates an things hes cleaned that is the last place he should be putting hands for food service.3:40pm some food starts to arrive from the kitchen - soup i dont like soup but most said the onion soup was good and they enjoyed it. how ever the waitress this time a women was delivering the soups she reached across the table with her hands more then over full looking like she may spill the soup on my younger daughter so after my wife had water spilt on her i was quick to grab the soup bowl to make sure it wasnt dropped on my daughter -- well i ended up with a wonder burn on the finger tips of my hands and thank you for helping me get that. cause she knew she was going to spill it.4:15 the side dishes start to trickle out of the kitchen but the main dishes where know where in-site most agreed the sides where less then avg other then the potatoes -4:35 or so the main dishes finally show up to the table.. i just find it odd the main dishes where coming out 20 min after the sides you would think they would be served together ... the chicken was ordered by many of the 12 cause they had heard good things about it - like one reviewer had said b4 the chicken seemed to be old like it had been cooked an reheated / extremely dry non seasoned most of it was not eaten. The fish was ordered by one there thought on the fish was that it was old and most likely had freezer burn on it before it was cooked i do not know for sure what it tasted like my self only as to what they said of it. How ever i ordered the steak. It was ordered as med steak. it was burnt on the outside not a seer but burnt - there was no salt, no pepper no garlic nothing to season the steak - biting into the steak was like eating a piece of leather that was hard dry almost like the steak had been cooked over 2 hours ago left to sit under some warmer. i took two bites an was done with it.5:00 they started to serve the ice cream at that point i felt there was nothing really left to enjoy an i removed my self from the dinner an waited in my car on my wife an daughter. paying our portion of the bill was 120.00 for 4 people with an extremely subpar meal.to continue on the venue its self - the building is old everything in it is old an it smells old also it looks to have been denied a proper cleaning for so long im not sure there is enough cleaning that could be done with out a full remodel to help the place.there are places that have the same style of venue that just seem to do everything better.I didnt want to write this review because i imagine someone like my grandmother owning this establishment that means the world to her, thats just gotten to old to be able to run it an should of passed it on or sold it years ago. For the benefit of its patrons an understood they had a good run as painful and has harsh as it may sound.if my grandmother bamboozled me for 120 bucks i sure as hell would snitch her out

I have frequently visited this Iron Skillet since 1957. I’ve always loved the food especially the chicken until January 19, 2024. We were there with a guest from Florida to celebrate a Birthday. Our reservation was at 6 PM consequently the chicken should have been freshly prepared. Instead it was like it was left over and had been refried. It was hard, not crispy and very dry and over cooked. Everything else was perfect, although I will hesitate to return with guests. One other complaint was the placemat at my setting was filthy!!!!Rose A. Walls2142 Main StreetSpeedway, IN

Lots of restaurants claim to cook home style meals, but this the most authentic made from scratch at home style food I have had anywhere. The chicken gets super high praise from every one that tried it. I had steak and the cut was good, minimal seasoning, very on point to the style of the restaurant. We also got the shrimp and it was explained that I was the best she had ever tried anywhere. Icecream with topping for dessert and true old fashion vanilla ice cream. The host is an amazing nkce and pernoble gentleman that brought it all together. Overall a great experience. Can't wait to go back.

I hate to do this because we have eaten there for 52 years. My wife and I have eaten there for special occasions since 1971. In August of this year we went to celebrate her birthday, She ordered shrimp and I ordered walleyed pike. When the dinners were served my fish was spoiled, they cooked me another piece of fish and it was spoiled. My wife was through eating when I sent the second piece of fish back, he appeased me by bringing me chicken. When I finally got done eating the chicken, the waitress presented me the bill charging me for the chicken. IMO the whole bill should have written off. We went back in December of this year 2023 and all the food was terrible, WE will never go back there again, we will find another place to celebrate special occasions.

This was my 2nd and final dining experience here with a large grp in the private space. The chicken was overcooked, dry and not seasoned. The green beans and corn are canned and edible if buried in the mashed potatoes. The mashed potatoes are good, the wedge has a sweet vinegar dressing that tastes similar to the beets. The beets were very good and so were.the potatoes. The biscuits are good with the apple butter. It was also unclear as to why our service was delayed for 45 mins when the party was booked weeks in advance. The cost of the meal was $31, then raised to $32...everyone paid their monies to the host since only 1 check was permitted. But then there was also an additional beverage fee that was added after the cost of the meal was communicated to the host and guests. Since only 1 ticket was allowed for the grp the host ended up paying everyone's beverage fee. Lastly, this space really needs a deep fresh cleaning and paint, new utensils, etc.The gentleman in the suit coat was kind...it was obvious that he knew that our service was off and cared, but could not.correct the issues.

Been a while since going to IS. Gone downhill! Unacceptable bodily appearance of beverage servers! Way too long to get waited on and too long between meal courses! Of course, expect better for the price. Our little group won't return.

Cozy!! Traditional style dining and I love that appetizers, dinner AND dessert are all just part of the experience. If im being honest I'll come here just to eat all the sides and soup!! Apple sauce is amazing and the onion soup is probably the BEST onion soup I've ever had. The rolls taste like homemade

Had about 20-25 people seated in a room way too small… for my dad’s 70th birthday. Food is always excellent.
