We let one of the kids pick this place off of yelp reviews. This place should be a hard pass. The menus were sticky and the place had a funky smell. The kids had cooked sushi and we had two teriyaki dishes--chicken and salmon. The sweet potato rolls were good and the other sushi dishes were okay. The teriyaki dishes were served cool and drowning in sauce. The salmon was really tough and must have been frozen and brought to room temperature in the microwave. The sauce was bottled and also just barely room temperature--some of the plate was actually cold. This was a Saturday night and the place was empty just one other table besides ours. The waitress seemed frazzled and was good about refilling our water glasses but everything else seemed to stress her. We would not ever consider eating raw fish from this place. This is based on the temperature of our cooked food, the smell, and the overall cleanliness. Consumer beware.

The place charged me a surprising "inflation surcharge" at the last moment which got my calculations completely wrong. I have never seen a business do this without informing the customers first. When I complained they pointed me to a small handwritten sign not even on the door, but beside, at a location every customer will miss. Most importantly it was NOT on the menu. The food was all right, but slapping customers with additional charges at the checkout instead of warning them first, whether it is 1% or 10% or 50%, it is a BAD Business practice. I paid quietly and left, but it left me very angry.

I came across this place through a handy dandy Yelp search while I was working in the area. I was really craving some sushi so I landed on "Sake Sushi" since it was closest. Sake Sushi is located right off Main Street I. West Lafayette. It can be a bit of a busy street so keep your eyes peeled for street parking (there's no designated parking lot). I walked into an empty restaurant where there was no one at the hostess stand--which I get since they were slow and empty. The first thing I noticed was this really odd smell - kind of like subtle sewage. The decor is a little dated and the atmosphere overall seemed cold and stark. Again, this could've been because it was empty and quiet. I was seated and handed my menu and my hostess went back to talking to her coworker who was sitting at the sushi bar. This made for some involuntary eavesdropping and also made me feel a really vibe Typically I order Nigiri at a sushi restaurant so I knew what I wanted fairly quickly. The server took my order and after about 20 minutes I finally got my food. I got some unagi, salmon, tobiko, and a spicy tuna roll. Also, the menu was outdated. There were a few things I tried to order that they've "been out of for months". ANYWAY, the service wasn't stellar, the food was "meh", and the overall vibe was weird. It could have been a one-off since it was really slow. I might give it another go before I recommend this to anyone, but If you are craving sushi though and end up here, just be prepared for some slow, friendly service.

The quality of both sushi and service dropped 10 times over the last year. While this used to be the best sushi restaurant in the area, now I wouldnt recommend it to anyone. They did change their chef twice and each time the quality and size of sushi significantly dropped. Also I had to wait an hour more the online order placed in advance. I will never use this place again.

slow service-- waited 20-30mins for appetizers. after appetizers were done, waited 30-40mins for entree. waitstaff seen wandering around aimlessly with the exception of one woman who seemed to be doing most of the work. food didn't compensate for the terrible service.

I had heard good things, but I never got to try them. After being one of only three customers in the restaurant for lunch, I waited an hour and never got food. The waitress explained their chef was taking a bit, so we stayed, but got nothing but miso soup and water. Nothing was comped for wasting our time and we weren’t even offered a salad or anything to make up for the wait. Several parties came in and got served after us. I don’t know what’s going on here, but it’s just not worth it. I wouldn’t even trust door dashing them from what I saw. Go to Yatagarasu instead.

Food was very good I would return & recommend . *Be Aware that several items were crossed off the menu. It seems at this point they should print out a list of what's available. It would look more professional and less disappointing to customers that decide to eat here based on this information. The menu is even posted at the entrance with nothing crossed off. Other than that, it was a pleasant dinner.

The food was good. We were suppose to get a cooked roll (the Peter roll) however it didn’t appear to be cooked. It didn’t stop us from eating it and it was tasty! It did take the server about 10 minutes to initially come to our table for drink orders but at that time, we were ready to order. For informational purposes: we were the only ones in the building And he was just sitting at a computer. (We really liked the Tiffany Roll / it had a spice & crunch)

The food was very good, it was the service that was severely lacking. My daughter treated me for Father's Day, the restaurant wasn't packed, so there really wasn't a valid reason for the service to be as poor as it was. At one point we were sharing a water because our drinks hadn't been refilled. Definitely not sure I'd ever go back.

One of the better Japanese restaurants I've been to in the area. I had their Salmon Bento Box and it was amazing and really worth the price. There was a slightly longer wait time for the food but the food was worth the wait.
