The woman who seated us (who I believe is a manager- if not she should be!) was great! She was very quirky and funny and so nice. Before she left she let us take pictures around the place (without bothering customers, of course). Our waitress (different younger lady) seemed a bit disinterested and a little inattentive but it was a bit crowded so I understand. The food was really good in terms of taste, however their portion sizes are very small compared to anywhere else I have ever been, especially for the price. The macaroni and cheese wasn’t great though, it tasted like peanut oil and didn’t have enough cheese (I recommend the cheesy potatoes though. So good.)I ordered an alcoholic beverage, the picture showed it came in a decent sized glass jar but it was delivered in a normal glass cup (much smaller than I thought) so it was a bit disappointing. However, I do recommend the place as their food has very good and unique flavor. We went during live music and was seated close, so it was a little loud for my taste but there is another side to the restaurant to sit. He did a good job on stage though! The parking was abysmal for us (originally didn’t find a spot and had to circle around the whole city to get back lol) but we eventually parked right across the street in the lot from it. So it was very close, right in front.Very neat decor and interior.Overall, you should definitely try it at least once.

Me and my husband both ordered the brisket dinner with Mac and cheese and cheesy potatoes. The sides were just okay. The brisket tasted like old, dry pot roast with zero seasoning. Our server was so nice, attentive, and really good at her job. The restaurant was pretty nice and the bathrooms were clean. Too bad the food sucked.

Food is underwhelming for a BBQ place. Staff, resturant and everything else is good.

Not BBQ , if you have had bbq in Texas or Carolinas , this is not the place. I don't like to give bad reviews, but they need new recipes. Very bland food, for a very bland audience. Richmond needs traditional places with some real smoke. I have worked at a butcher shop and I know the difference between a roast and a brisket, unfortunately some people in Richmond do not. If you like conservatively seasoned meat and poorly made sides then this is the place! This is like when white people attempt Mexican food, but way way worse.

Having attended seminary in the Richmond area, I've long been a fan of this part of the state. While seminary is now down, I find myself visiting here semi-regularly because of friends who now live in the area and a friend who serves as a pastor here. The Firehouse BBQ & Blues is definitely a preferred joint located in Richmond's historic depot district. It's a beautiful setting inside and out with a delightful patio, dog friendly, during better weather. In case it's not obvious, The Firehouse emphasizes both quality BBQ and live music (not just blues, though there's definitely a lot of blues). This is slow-cooked, wood-smoked BBQ. The menu emphasizes BBQ, of course, but there are other options including a pretty awesome pizza. You can get ribs, chicken, pulled pork, BBQ, beef brisket, tacos, wraps, smoked sausage, cheesesteak, a few appetizers, soups, some unique potato combinations, salads, and there is a kids' menu. There's also a handful of dessert options - I recommend the peanut butter pie. Delish. They serve Coke products and do have iced tea options. The Firehouse is closed on Sundays. They have live music pretty regularly - the website is a good source of info, though for truly current stuff you may want to check their Facebook page. Fun facts: This building really is a Civil War era building in Richmond and was a firehouse for around 70 years. The firehouse theme is throughout the building - Murals and memorabilia, including badges, actual firemen uniforms, and other nostalgic items. You've also got a lot of music-themed items throughout with blues items dominating and references to the former Gennett Records (which was based in Richmond). Is The Firehouse perfectly accessible? Nope. No historic building is for the most part, however, it's super easy to dine here and you can easily both dine and enjoy music here if you have mobility concerns (as I do). I did not try the restrooms and haven't necessarily gone around the place completely enough to give great detail.
