Always enjoyed going here with friends way back in the late 60's.

Friendly, cheapest drinks in town on Tuesdays. Owner remembered my name even though I'd only been there once before.

I randomly stopped here last week while in town for work and loved this place!! The owner/ bartender was so nice and welcoming and all of the regulars were friendly and made you feel at home! Will definitely be back!

Cops are called here at least once a month. Fights, arguing, and more. It’s ghetto. Somebody died there last night from a shooting inside the bar. It attracts the worst king of people

I love this bar. I couldn’t feel anymore comfortable than I do here!!!! It is like our second home... I would ?% recommend this to anyone of any culture, background, genre or history. Everyone is welcomed and everyone is treated like family!!! Come down and meet the bartenders and give it a shot!!!! You won’t be disappointed!!!!!

After a 14 month Covid hiatus, a fully vaccinated co-worker and myself were ready to finally do a little bar hopping. Our Uber took us to one of my favorite neighborhoods - Strawberry Hill. Of the 5 places we stopped at, Sammy's was the only one that I had not previously been to. It is also the only stop that I see myself not returning too. The joint is pretty small with a long wooden bar and the atmosphere is old school neighborhood dive bar. Equally as small was the hospitality from the lady behind the bar. We seemed to be interrupting her Candy Crush game or Facebook scrolling and she was in no mood for small talk, friendliness or any form of positive customer interaction that one expects when entering a watering hole. We ended up taking our beers outside to their less than spectacular patio, and left as soon as we could for a very cool experience 2 blocks north at the Colonial Club.
