Chicken was so dry. Bbq sauce didn't even help out. Fries were a disappointment this time too. Definitely were not fresh.

Last time we ate at Gates, it was wonderful. This time we got our usual brisket sandwich and it was mostly FAT! Disappointing and disgusting. Sorry folks but something has changed--maybe vendors or something

I know it's somewhat trendy to be rude with the barbecue, but the girl at the counter tonight ensured I won't be back. They're barbecue is good, not the best in KC but good. Their baked beans are amazing. But totally horrible service doesn't get you anywhere in my book.

I literally just left there @ 6pm on Easter Sunday 2024. I was wondering why there were little to No cars there, but with that being said, there still was a little wait. My beef on Bun totaled out at nearly $15! $4 bucks higher than from when I was last there! Which is why I hadn't been back in years (plus the food quality.) Well, anyway, My fries were fine, but for some reason my sandwich was so wet tasting..I was confused as to why because there was hardly any beef or sauce on my bread. I still continued to eat it until something told me to open the sandwich up to my surprise there were PINK slices of beef in my sandwich ? I didn't even feel like arguing or turning around. I should've just followed my first gut and went to Price Chopper. I absolutely Will not be back!! I have a picture from my ? but it apparently isn't allowed on here, or maby I just don't know how to do it from this review.

we ate here years ago, its still the same. service stinks here , always has , always will. the two pit masters yelling at each other in kitchen, the girl taking the order came in late and was fighting with the woman in the office, she asks for your order , then turns away , you tell her what you want then asks what you said. Its very Ignorant here. You beg for sauce, no refills, never again.

On Wednesday, March 20, 2024 around five or 5:30 PM I visited the Gates At 2001 W. 103rd Terrace, in Leawood, KS 66206 My dad and my granddaughter, we ordered a large platter which was $180+ tax. I had requested fresh fries because the ones that were there looked cold and old. There were two young ladies working behind the register. The line started getting long. I’m assuming the hostess raising her voice at the young ladies in regards to the line being long. She said to the young lady she could leave if she wanted to there was still (2) people that could work. The Young lady that took our order was doing a good job and myself, and the other customers were not bothered by the wait. She began to Make reference to her dropping fresh fries, saying that she had already wasted three basket of fries. I let the young lady know that I really appreciate her for dropping the fresh fries for us. Once the order was complete, as we were paying for the order, there was a gentleman behind us who said that he would pay for our order. The hostess let us know that this gentleman always does this when he comes in. That was a true blessing and most appreciated. I thanked him and hugged him for blessing us for paying the $184 for our large platter….I Just want to say not to take anything away from the blessing that was passed on to us…..When arriving home and unpacked our dinner, we noticed that we did not have our baked beans which was not a big deal because it was a true blessing someone paid for our meal. Now this is a whole different story. It was the worst looking meat I’ve ever seen serving to a customer in my lifetime from Gates, and I have eaten at gates my whole life and I’m 64. My parents and I have been eating there forever Ham look like it was maybe a few days or a week old the beef was crumbled. It was not slices, just crumbled on the Platter. I wish that I would’ve taken pictures yesterday of the complete platter once it was Unwrapped, but my parents felt it was such a blessing that we should not say anything, but I felt compelled to put a review on this page because I know that Gates does not Serve this type of food to their customers!

Stopped here on our yearly trip to Kansas City. It was quite expensive for what you get compared to other BBQ places. I'm not big into spicy food and everything was spicy. The reviews say they're all about service but it seemed like they were short with us and kind of yelled at us. We didn't feel very welcome. I don't think we'll be back.

I love gates BBQ, but at this place you must be on your toes when ordering, hope you been here before.......if not watch what others are doing and grav a tray if eating there. My fries were cold and alot of fat in my sandwich. I did visit an hour before close and did get to go, but I should have asked for lean meat on sandwich and asked for fresh fries, thinking they might have but don't know for sure, I love the location by plaza much better, and little friendlier in my opinion. But will be back to this place if in area because I love their sauce. ...and usually better than this experience...
