We have enjoyed Cafe Bel Ami for over 30 years. It is our favorite place to dine in Wichita. Not only is the food wonderful, but the dining room is quiet and romantic. It is aging, but we can call that "shabby chic". On our most recent visit, a newer server did not possess the same graciousness that most of the others have had, and displayed her frustration, which I reflect in the service rating. We had the impression that she did not think she should be assigned our table and initially let it show. The remaining service was fine. I hope the new chosen location is centrally located as well.

My husband and I tried Cafe Bel Ami for the first time yesterday and I can’t say we’ll be back. The restaurant itself is beautiful and reminds me of some restaurants I’ve been to in New Orleans and New York with the older more classic decor. It’s also in a great location, although parking is a little scarce. Our service was okay although we were not offered bread which after reading other reviews it seems is something that they do. If a restaurant offers bread as a starter to some patrons, it should do the same for all. Not getting bread wouldn’t be a big enough issue to not return though. The reason we won’t be back is simply because the food is subpar. We both got the special that the waitress told us about and it tasted and looked like frozen Tyson chicken breasts (the kind with the fake grill marks) with canned sauce. It wasn’t bad food, as I am not above eating frozen precooked chicken (which is why I can recognize it when I am eating it) but I wouldn’t consider it restaurant quality and certainly not what I’d expect to be coming out of such a beautiful place. I’m honestly having a hard time reconciling what we got vs what should be coming out of a restaurant like that.

Exceptional dining experience! Maybe one of the best kept secrets in Wichita. Of all of the steak restaurants I've tried, their's is the best quality and the best value. The staff are polite and very professional. Wonderful

1st, I have never eaten off of the main menu, so please keep that in mind if you are using my review to determine if you want to eat there or not. I attended a private event with about 75 people and they created a custom menu, with no options. You got what you got for appetizers, main course, and desert. That could be because of the host of the event, not the restaurant. I took one bite of everything presented and was done. The lack of quality of a custom menu was enough that I do not intend to try them for their standard fair. Most of the people around me were doing the same thing, pushing their food away. My table all commented that they had never been there and based on what was being served wouldn't come back. The service was truly amazing, all the staff were very attentive & friendly, but that could have been because it was a private event. The "Atmosphere" or the way its designed is great if you love colors from the 80's. It wasn't current or classically designed, neither good nor bad in my opinion.

We are very picky about where we eat. We want great service and great food. Bel Ami delivers both!I ordered the salmon special, and my husband ordered the steak special. We were not disappointed. The steak was cooked to perfection and the side of veggies was a wonderful compliment to the dish. The salmon was cooked how I like it and was topped with shrimp. Our server was kind and courteous. He was never too far away. We were taken care of and felt like we could ask any question or make a request without feeling like we were bothering or upsetting our server. We will be back.Dietary restrictions: I eat gluten-free, and my meal was prepared to keep me safe.

The shrimp and chicken a la Nabil was deliciously zesty, paired nicely with a sauv blanc. I followed up with carrot cake and espresso. Dining alone, mid- afternoon, was a calm respite as the staff were friendly but not intrusive. This was a highlight of my trip to Witchita.

It was a few years ago when I first visited this place. Being the only vegetarian in my group I helped myself to many appetizers but could find no vegetarian options on the entrée so I politely asked them and George (who managed the place) immediately got the chef to make a vegan dish for me. It tasted delicious as did everything else. Ever since, I have been a huge fan of this place, and a trip to wichita means stopping by for at least one meal, without fail. It is great for a formal date. A quiet dinner with family friends. A brunch with office colleagues. The ambience is very european. We were satisfied by their service, every time. They acknowledge and accommodate all our dietary restrictions ( low sodium, vegan, low carb, substituting what we want substituted). My dad, who traveled all the way from India and is extremely finicky about food and refuses to try new cuisines, was blown away by the chicken curry and full of praise. We have brought friends over who have thoroughly enjoyed their food.Kids were welcome, although seeing the quiet formal setting, I would refrain from getting children if they are too young and boisterous.Food our family has tried and loved includeVeggie curry ( not on menu, you may request), Hummus, Artichoke dip, Haloumi, Scallops, Chicken curry, Seafood melangeWe have had brunch and dinner numerous times.Vegetarian options: Many appetizers and dessert optionsAlthough they don't mention it on the menu, you can request them to prepare a veggie curry with pasta/rice (it will be vegan, made in coconut milk)Dietary restrictions: They work with your dietary restrictionsex. low sodium restrictions

The Paradox Spot

This was our first time trying out Cafe Bel Ami.It was a Friday night and we didn’t have a reservation but it was just two of us and we were seated immediately. Unfortunately it did take a bit of time before our server made it to the table, but not completely to the point of being upsetting. With that said the service was great from that point on. No complaints.Appetizer: We had the Halloumi cheese to start. It was delicious as well as the spinach & tomatoes w/balsamic drizzle on top that came with it. One funny thing to note was when chewing it literally sounded like wet sneakers on a hard floor. lolSalad: My husband had the Viennese salad and I ended up sneaking some bites as well. It was one of the best salads I’ve had in a while. The dressing was so yummy! The cucumbers on it tasted really fresh as well.Dinner: I requested the A La Nabil Shrimp And Chicken Pasta but with the meat on a separate plate. 10/10 dish. The flavor of this meal was **chefs kiss**. Just the right amount of spice to enjoy but not be too overpowering.•My husband had the Lemon Herb Salmon. He as well loved his. Said his salmon was seasoned and cooked perfectly.Drinks: We tried a couple of martinis and liked them. My favorite cocktail of the night was the Golden Cadillac tho.The Atmosphere of the restaurant was nice. We sat at a table to the left of the restaurant which was a small, but cute room.We will definitely be back.
