This is the best Mexican in Baton Rouge. They have the best salsa! It is a roasted salsa so less acidic, which is what I love about it. Also they have an awesome, creamy green salsa. The table side guac is great too. There's no question they have the best fajitas in Baton Rouge. The chicken is sliced thin and the flavor is just awesome. I don't usually go for steak fajitas but I do here because it's always tender rather than chewy like lots of other places. Homemade tortillas of course, and you see them being made as you walk in. Love this place and when I want good Mexican, it is always my first choice!

Veganize It!

My first experience here was fabulous! Ashley was our server, she was so attentive and inviting. Two members of our tribe are vegan and she made sure we knew what options the restaurant had to offer and was just overall very knowledgeable about the menu. The food was delicious and our service made the experience a 10/10! Will definitely be back!Vegetarian options: Veggie Fajitas, green rice, black beans, corn tortillas, guacamole, red salsa, pico de galloDietary restrictions: Vegan, dairy-free, egg-free, nut allergy

We love Tio Javi's!!! The tortillas are excellent and that makes all the tortilla based dishes even better. They keep shellfish away from other ingredients; so my daughter who is allergic to shellfish has a wide variety of choices! Thanks SO SO SO much for that!!!We had soft tacos, quesadillas, & burritos. They were all delicious!!!Dietary restrictions: The shrimp are kept separate from other food and cooked separately as well. So other meats are safe to eat if you have shellfish allergies. My daughter is highly allergic to shellfish & has never had issues eating here.

I recently stayed at the Crowne Plaza and thought it would be nice to try the restaurant next door. I was not impressed. It was clean enough and the staff was kind enough, but it lacked the necessary things for me to return. I ordered the beef and chicken fajita’s to go. The food in my opinion had no flavor. That I could have gotten over. What I could not get over is the cold food. Especially when I did not have the necessary plates and etc in which to heat the food up since it was served in a foil container. The tortillas tasted homemade and was quite warm, so perhaps the staff thought wrapping the rice, beans, and meat in the taco would have made it warmer….this was not the case. Even the salsa was not good. The regular salsa was room temperature with no flavor, and the green tomatillo sauce was cold…not room temperature: cold. I was super sick and I wondered why when I took the container out of the bag it felt cold….well now I know. I was simply too sick to walk back across the parking lot to complain or to raise a fuss.I do not live in the local area and do not know when I will return, so there is no way to compensate me, but please please ensure the food served is hot and at a minimum lukewarm….one can add salt- well didn’t have that either, but trying to find a way to heat up food in a hotel can be difficult.

This location is consistently good food and service but today, Ashley, really impressed me. When I called in a to go order she listened and went out of her way to please a customer. The restaurant had done nothing wrong and she went out of her way anyway. I am highly impressed and thankful!!!!

The restaurant was nice but felt plain. The food was just okay, nothing that we were crazy over. Our server was great and the entire staff was on top of their game. This was just a very okay experience, wouldn’t care to come back here unfortunately.

My in-laws recommended this place. And I'm so glad they did. We have season tickets to LSU softball and basketball. And eat out often. I was caught off guard when we walked in. And no one was around to seat us. When she finally showed up, she said, "Can I help you?" But our waitress was super sweet. The food is really good. I can't wait to go back.

Great service and great food. The margaritas are top-of-the-line. Every time we're in town it's a must to stop in for some tacos and margaritas.

Tio Javi's continues its downward spiral for food and service and its upward soar in prices. This used to be our go to place for group dinners and after work gatherings, but it is clear that the restaurant doesn't really welcome that anymore. My colleagues continue to suggest Tio Javi's for work gatherings given its past reputation, but each time, we leave feeling as though our business was not welcomed. We are not your rowdy young crowd, and many in the group have held past restaurant experience or at least are respectful of the employees and go out of our way to simplify the experience of handling a larger group. The margaritas as of late taste more of fake sugar than authentic, or the sour in the mix is overpowering for the rocks variety. Depending on your bartender, other cocktails sometimes hit the mark, but other times, lack flavor or the proper amount of alcohol. Our last experience was for a late lunch after leaving work a little early, but our waitress seemed like she was rushing us so she could leave (i get it, her shift was soon to end, but they should have assigned a large party to someone who wasn't getting off a half hour after we were seated). The hard taco shells I had were soggy by arrival time, meat and toppings sliding off. And just about everything on everyone's plate was doused in liquid cheese or over sauced, drowning the flavor of the ingredients from shining through. Given the many other options out there and the many other places embracing larger groups, Tio Javi's is sadly falling behind on our gatherings radar. I hope the past few years have just been a fluke, and I do hope it rises back to its glory of yesteryear. However, if I am directing visitors to our city, Tio Javi's doesn't even cross my mind any more.

I decided to try them out on my birthday February 9 and I was definitely impressed by the food and drinks me and my friends ordered. The time it took to serve us was not long at all despite it being busy and the atmosphere was appropriate and not obnoxiously loud compared to other restaurants. I will be back again!
