We visited Crevasse on April 14, 2023 for lunch. They have been on our ‘have to try’ list for quite some time, but they recently changed ownership. The facility itself is wonderfully rustic and housed in a very old building that has a long history of varied uses over the decades. The beautiful drive along River Road is the perfect pre-meal gift offered to all who make the wise choice to visit. We arrived early (as we often do) so did not encounter any ‘lunch rush’. The menu is not extensive, but there are adequate choices to please most anyone, including a “kids’ menu”. We were immediately greeted and seated. The waitstaff was attentive and friendly. They do a daily lunch special, and there were two options today. Each special includes a generous house salad as well as a dessert (with ice cream as an option) My wife and I each ordered one of the menu specials, with water as our beverage of choice. My wife ordered the crab cake and fried shrimp (3). The specials were served with fries. The crab cake and the shrimp were done very well with nice seasoning and full flavor. The crab patty had a good balance of crab meat and “stuffing”, and was delicious. I ordered the fish and shrimp plate. I was served two nice-sized pieces of fried fish as well as fried shrimp (3). The portions on the sides of fries are adequate, while not the over-sized type you often see when a restaurant is trying to ‘fill the plate’ and falls victim to the quantity over quality path. The fries were obviously hand cut, very freshly fried and delicious. My wife order the vanilla ice cream as her dessert. I passed on the peach cobbler, since I was more than satisfied with my meal and didn’t need the calories. Overall, we had a very positive experience and look forward to visiting again and inviting family and friends to join us.

I should have read the reviews before I even thought of booking here. Mind you, I drove from Michigan to Louisiana to get away from abuse, and try to HEAL MYSELF! I got there, and the camp host, Howard, made sure to let me know I was interrupting his dinner. Then after I had been on the phone with the owner Mark a week before I got there, and didn’t even mention about a reservation because there were “many spots open” and I wouldn’t need to worry. There are numerous things that sent me into a panic attack at that place, and it was how the staff treats you. I felt extremely uncomfortable and wanted to leave, but was convinced by the owner to stay, FOR FREE due to how inappropriate his camp host was. Well then, he became inappropriate with me when I told him numerous times I was there to heal, and fix myself- not pick up another problem. After saying it numerous times he wasn’t getting the idea that I felt uncomfortable every time I had to explain I was trying to heal myself. Healing from the side effects of a dysfunctional abusive family, and dealing with my medical illnesses like brain cancer, I truly meant it that I needed to heal, including my suicidal thoughts, to which he encouraged me to kill myself. All because I was there to try and heal from previous issues, does this owner take advantage of a young woman, and then encourage her to cut herself. After I mutilated my arm from his words I left. I highly recommend you search the ratings area first before going anywhere, but overall I do not recommend this plantation, or any of other Marks sites he owns because if THIS place was a nightmare, I can only imagine what another location from this guy would be. Extremely unprofessional, including with customers there. If you’re a woman do not agree to “be friends” because he will push for more, then make you feel bad to where you try to cut yourself to bleed literally to death.

My fiancé and I have eaten at this restaurant many times. Tonight, we ordered and went pick it up. We both got the hamburger steak, which we have had before. But, tonight, it was terrible. The hamburger steak was so dry and the potatoes tasted weird. Very disappointed. :(

Update: Have been back a few times and the food is just great! Had the best bacon cheeseburger there tonight and some fantastic onion rings. Everything was delicious and fresh! Will continue to go back. Fun atmosphere, friendly service, just had dessert but plan to go again soon for a good dinner and some live music

We absolutely love a place that provides great food and great service...and this place does. The fried fish and shrimp platter was perfectly cooked. We had butter milk pie that melted in our mouth! The waitress was amazing!

Poche Plantation's bed-and-breakfast and RV park and resort is a unique complex for both its architecture and accommodations. Located at 6554 Highway 44 in Convent, Louisiana, the main house was built in 1867 on land that was the site of a 160-acre sugar cane plantation. Architecturally, it is a raised plantation house. Like so many others in the region, its design was influenced by the Victorian Renaissance Revival style while most plantation homes were influenced by the Green Revival style. Because it is located less than an hour from Baton Rouge to the west and New Orleans to the east, Poche is a convenient destination for visitors who plan to tour the antebellum mansions situated along Louisiana's River Road. Choose one of several family and romantic cottages or park your motor home in one of the 85 concrete shaded spaces. Poche is a home away from home with two full laundry facilities, mail service, church services, library, movie studio, private shower facilities, pool and jacuzzi facilities, recreation house, game room, TV room and food service. Tour the founder's office. Judge Felix Pierre Poche's four room, 1, 250-square-foot building is original and was built in 1830. For an overnight stay, my wife and I recommend Cottage No. 3 with a private front porch with rockers, fireplace, full double bed, three custom rugs with real wood plank flooring, Victorian antique bedroom set with matching marble night table and large two-door full beveled mirror armoire.

The only reason for the two stars was that the staff that was there were very nice. We walked in and immediately told limited menu and short staff only two people. They recommended roast beef burger. Which was great because that's what we're wanting anyway. ordered a roast beef dressed and a bacon cheeseburger, about 15 minutes later we were then told they didn't have any lettuce. At this point we just went with it because we had already been there a good 45 mins. ReceIved our food mine was as described roast beef without lettuce. It was hot which I liked and tasted pretty good. My poor husband on the other hand ended up with a bun, patty tomato and Mayo. Of course no lettuce but also no cheese are bacon. We didn't mention it as we were ready to be gone. They also didn't seem to even notice that they didn't put it. Our I've had our tea tasting freezer burnt as well. Our total was $27 I can't tell you if it was right our not because I was never handed the ticket just kinda showed it from a distance to which I saw the total. We were over the experience and wanted to leave so we pid tipped and left. I had such high expectations from everyone's reviews. :(

We stayed in the main home. Although everything on the web site states it is a "Bed & Breakfast" we found out when we arrived that breakfast is not included, and the on-site restaurant is not open for breakfast. Although we read in the comment book in the room that the "snacks were wonderful" we had no snacks either. Nor soap or shampoo. The only TV channels we got were a few over-the-air channels, and only in one room. The batteries in the remote control in the living room were corroded and the remote didn't work. On the plus side, we had the whole house to ourselves, there is a mini-fridge and coffeemaker, and the jetted tub was wonderful (although it had to be cut on and off from the breaker box in the hallway). The place is run down, but is partly to blame on the number of hurricanes that have come through over the last couple of years.
