I come over from Texas to handle some errands in Lake Charles and stumbled upon BBQ West and decided to have lunch. I was so impressed with the food and the friendly staff. I plan on driving the hour over again soon to eat!!!

Well it was quite the journey to get here, after flying into Houston and driving to Lake Charles to see my elderly parents I thought I'd be a good son and offer to bring lunch instead of having my mom cook one of my favorite meals from my childhood, this was quite the sacrifice believe me. Before starting the trip I told my dad I'd like to pick up lunch before arriving at the old homestead. My dad told me that would be great and he would absolutely love some good ole' Texas Barbecue I reminded him I was landing around 8:30 AM and that it would be impossible to score some authentic Texas Q' at that time on a Sunday morning but I'd see what I could do. After searching high and low I landed here at BBQ West, it was great they open at 10:00 AM on Sundays so I made the call as soon as I crossed the Sabine River Bridge on I-10 to place an order to pick up - (1) Rack of Ribs, (1) Pound of Pulled Pork and (1/2) Pound of BBQ Ham with pints size sides of potato salad, dirty rice and coleslaw, everything was ready when I arrived and I was out the door for $83.00 what a bargain. I don't know if my parents were more excited to see me or the mini-feast but it was a joy no matter. The staff here were inviting and I even got to cut the cafeteria style line to pay and run. My subjective opinion of the food offerings: Pork Ribs - Good Smoke, Tender and Meaty Pulled Pork - Lean, Smoky, not the most flavorful but pretty solid Ham - Underwhelming, ham is a difficult task to make memorable, but good Dirty Rice - Non-traditional with the addition of mushrooms, not a fan Potato Salad - Impressive, nice and moist without over doing it Coleslaw - A pretty good example of this style Everyone has there favorite version of bbq, growing up in the area I'd say this place does a good job, I think my expectation of bbq is pretty high but I'd do this place again, very respectable...
Especially like the outdoor burger hamburger. I like mine with corn on the cob!

This was the best BBQ we have had in Louisiana. They also have good hamburgers and crispy fried (very good). Very reasonable priced. Definitely recommend the restaurant.

Excellent bbq but slow service. We went through the drive through and with no one else there it took ten minutes. Got potato salad with my meal but no plastic ware. Requested ketchup twice received none for our fries. Great food but questionable service.
