Didn't get to try much food but the flavored butters are insane. Its small cocktail list but man they do it well and they do their own spin on them as well I would love to come back here

We planned to stop by Bar Marilou after dinner yesterday evening (4/18). We arrived at 11:07 and proceeded to open the door to Bar Marilou however it was locked. We caught the attention of one of the waitresses who came over to let us know that they had closed early for the night. I told her that Google showed that they closed at 12 and she said that they stop seating at 11:15. It was 11:10 by now. So then she asked a manager if we could come inside and the manager explained that the bartender was overwhelmed and that we couldn’t come inside for a drink. This was very disappointing especially after going out of our way to visit. We will hopefully have an opportunity to come back while we’re in town and have a different experience.Edited* Bar Marilou responded that they cannot always seat walk in guests however I DID have a reservation. I forgot to mention that part in my initial review.

Incredible experience at Bar Marilou! Highly recommend. The ambience was great, the drinks spectacular but Hunter made the evening. Great personality and recommendations. We tried a variety of drinks and all were delicious, balanced and refreshing. If you're looking for a great experience, find this bar and ask for Hunter!

Beautiful atmosphere, stunning decor, and live music! Not too loud though, it was the perfect volume for conversation. Our server Anna was the best part of the night, however. She was so fast and considerate, and had the best recommendations! Great experience overall.

A group of Black historians walked into the bar for a private book reception/party and upon sight, the diminutive bespectacled bar waiter/manager voiced his disapproval that we presented a volume issue re: crowding. Yet, white patrons w/o reservations were allowed entry with a smile. At no point should patrons have heard his displeasure at our arrival. He was clear that our presence was unwanted. When I entered, four historians were leaving as were other guests. No guests were committed to stay at the bar for the entirety of the reservation. I guess the South still rises at the Maribou. The racism and anti-Blackness were palpable. The interesting thing was, we’re the demographic an establishment like this would typically desire but the staff amplified to us via their behavior we were not welcomed. No smiles, no greetings, but an “Oh Jesus” from the presumed manager who had to move through a gaggle of no more than three women talking as he huffed to the bar. Literally every black person except the Pulitzer Prize winning one there left en masse. But perhaps what we all experienced was imagined, surely we all were playing the proverbial race card. *And I had a reservation for this event weeks in advance as I am a contributor to the book that was being honored at the bar.
