This place is fantastic. If you're looking for a restaurant to sample some authentic food of this region then consider a stop at the Gumbo Shop. If for nothing else than to buy some of their delicious garlic hot sauce. Delicious!!! And the vibe inside the restaurant is wonderful. It's an indoor/semi-outdoor situation and is funky and has lots of character. I had several of the items on their menu but by far the shrimp etouffee was my favorite!!! The flavor was incredible. Our server was friendly and helpful. We had a bit of a mix-up with part of our order coming way, way after the rest and that was frustrating. We went a while without seeing our waitress. But the food more than made up for it. And our waitress brought a free dessert for our trouble. Be prepared this is a favorite place for many so there will likely be a wait.

Cute location and restaurant aesthetics but the service wasn’t great. It was loud inside - music would probably help. The food was technically good but not great. Not a lot of flavor.

Very good local cuisine for what I tasted, fast and efficient service, room a little too noisy for my taste. There's a way to find something quieter and just as good...I don't understand why there's always a queue to get there!

Super reasonably priced food, pretty busy but tables turn quickly. Staff was also super friendly, I highly recommend the crawfish pasta, flavored super well and filling. I'd skip the salmon, lacked flavor and was some what over grilled.

Gaynell was our server. She was really sweet and attentive, even though she was very busy waiting on lots of other customers. The food was good but not great.

Doesn’t get much better for the price and location. Ask for Brandon as your server, and enjoy.

Really enjoyed Gumbo Shop. Came on a Thursday night and it was busy but we were quickly seated around 7pm. The food was great and service was quick and attentive. The food was hearty and ample. Sadly, they didn't have the corn side nor were they able to substitute for another side on the menu. Ended up with the spinach- which was okay. Ambiance was cool. Wasn't too loud and felt spacious enough to have convos without talking over others.

So as a first timer in New Orleans and any other time you might go going to gumbo shop is like stepping through the doors of heaven! Me and my boyfriend had a work trip with a long layover in New Orleans we took advantage that it was on our anniversary and made a celebration of it I looked up authentic cuisine in New Orleans and gumbo shop came up I feel like I have good luck when it comes to choosing great food joints. When we got there we got seated almost immediately the place was giving very old antique vibes great decor for what I would expect being in New Orleans you can tell the building was old and had character or waiter was the nicest old man new his stuff when it came to the menu we told him it was our first time there. I was all about the questions and having a great experience and this gentleman was giving us just that! We went with all of his recommendations I told him I really wanted gumbo and jambalaya. So he told us what to get we ordered a gator sausage which I'd never tried gator till that day. He said a bit if pork was mixed in to make the sausage because the gator meat is so tender that the sausage wouldn't form. It was so soft and juicy tasted delicious and maybe not how'd you think gator taste. We had a cup of gumbo every bite was like I was dancing down the streets of New Orleans to the band playing! Sangria was so fresh, And strong. Our Creole combination platter had jambalaya, shrimp creole and red beans. Now if I had a grandma from New Orleans this is what her cooking would be like! But it really did remind me of homemade Cuban cooking we love seafood and cook with all that flavor! I do have to say our favorite part was the dessert! When he told us to have the bread pudding we immediately said yes! Omg this pudding! Every warm bite melts in your mouth it was the perfect ending to the perfect meal! It was like being laid to bed on a soft cloud! Thank you all so much for a great evening can't wait to come back!!!

I came to the Gumbo Shop as part of a large group the day after a wedding, and boy did it not disappoint! After about a 20 minute wait, we got sat inside the restaurant. The server was quick to take our drink orders. I got a lime daiquiri and it was good. However, it tasted more like a melted popsicle then anything with alcohol in it. My friend got the Hurricane and said it was not the best she's ever had, but not bad. To eat, I got the chicken andouille gumbo and .. wow it was so tasty. I would 100% recommend this dish, it is beyond flavorful, filling, and amazingly priced. I hope to be back one day!

The Gumbo Shop is in the heart of the French Quarter and extremely popular. A lot of overly popular places have disappointed me for a variety of reasons. I would say the food here was good, but it could've been hotter. The drinks were on point...thank you bartender. I'd recommend ordering the sampler, get a cup of Gumbo and a drink and call it a day. The service is very good and defines southern hospitality. It's a good feel inside, nothing fancy, crowded and nosey. Oh yeah and Brady pudding is always something that sounds good...it was a disappointment.

Gumbo Shop is my favorite NOLA restaurant and we eat there every visit. Etouffee is delicious and the gumbo is of course fabulous. Relaxed atmosphere, decent prices and casual dress make it a go-to stop for us.Dietary restrictions: Wife is gluten free and has a dairy allergy. They offered the red beans and rice, which have neither and she LOVED her dish.
