You do not go to Waffle House for the atmosphere. It is the food that brings people in. Waffle House makes the best comfort food. I have not found a restaurant in this chain that has been a disappointment where food is concerned. The people working in the store in Mathews, Louisiana, make it fun, in addition to the good food.
Our waiter with the flowing silver locks was excellent. The food was delicious and fresh. Wish the waffles were thicker but they still good.

Clueless server. Ordered a simple egg and bacon breakfast with hash browns. No hash browns, got grits, eggs was good, toast was good. I can't comment on the bacon since it never arrived. Sever acknowledged no bacon at the register, but no action was taken. Full price, no apologies, not even have a nice day.

Waffle House is a regional breakfast all day diner stable in the south. I kept seeing them throughout my trip. The interior of each restaurant is pretty small with a diner area and a few booths that all sit against the open kitchen concept. The menu is simple and the staff is highly efficient wearing many hats and bearing many responsibilities. Respect! Definitely a no frills meal meant to be a quick and convenient stop or maybe a late night bite. My boyfriend had their All Star Special ($11) with 2 eggs scrambled, bacon, a waffle of your choosing, hashbrowns, and toast. They only have white bread, no alternative. I had a Coffee ($2.50) and their 2 Egg Breakfast and Bacon ($9) meal which I opted for sunny side up and hashbrowns and toast. While I was watching their production I was fairly impressed... until I watched too long. The chef at the egg station was cracking the eggs on the edge of a bowl, which basically causes shell to get into your eggs. It's better to crack eggs on a flat surface. And less impressed by the time the food got to us when my toast and bacon were burnt at some parts. That butter drenched over the eggs. Soooooo unhealthy. To make it worse, there was a BEETLE that crawled out of our pecan waffle. Yikes. We told our waitress and she made us a new one, but the new one was not as crispy and potentially undercooked. Bleh. Over it. I actually enjoy no frills meals but I don't think asking for my food to not be burnt or not have insects crawling out to be asking for too much. I see the potential in these types of chain and I enjoy the ambiance, but my personal experience leaves much to be desired.
