Really really hate to have to do this because the Barking Dog used to be one of our go to places in Amesbury for a great hearty meal, good service and a cozy atmosphere. Unfortunately that was not the case recently. The music was way too loud and unsettling. The service was sub par and the wait staff was friendly enough but looked very disheveled… the server/bar tender didn’t know about the beers on the beer menu. The food was pretty disappointing too, very small portions and poor presentation. The bathroom looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in weeks (there were poop stains all over the inside of the toilet…so disgusting). So sad that the Barking Dog has become a shell of its former self.

Ordered fish and chips. The order came with small 1 inch squares that looked like chicken mcnuggets. They were coated with a green and red crunchy crumble. Ask what it was, was told it was crushed up tortilla chips. Did not look like it had been fried at all. No fried fish flavor whatsoever. The french fries were thin slivers of greasy soggy potato. Worst excuse for fish and chips I've ever seen.
Came in a little towards kitchen closing time. We had been looking for a place to eat for a while. Everywhere we went the kitchen was closed. The Barking Dog took us in with open arms. The food we ordered was great. At that point I would have eaten plain chips and that would have been a gourmet meal. The burger I had was phenomenal. Bartender , Alex was so welcoming and very funny. Took the best care of us.

Great downtown Amesbury bar and restaurant. We always love giving the local bars our support when on Vaca. Kudos to Patrick, our bartender for his recommendation’s for dinner. We had the J*** Chicken salad..get the balsamic dressing..adds a kick! Chicken pesto in a pita had some great flavor. Very friendly and attentive staff. We love seating at the bar while getting to know the locals. Very quaint and walkable downtown area, with many options for all taste buds.

Came here before going to the movies. Had Mia as our server assisted by Damien. They were friendly and fabulous!! Drinks were very good. I had the kielbasa app that was very tasty. 2 ladies had the chicken salad sandwiches which they both loved. My friend had the steak tip sub which was cooked perfect. I had the J*** Chicken roll up…… GET THIS!!!! It is a super flavorful sandwich served with tots. We will be back!!
