The food is just really poor. This was confirmed in two visits. It's the worst Mexican place I've been in the Boston area and I've leaved here for close to 40 years. Service is fine and friendly. Maybe the food is adequate if you're stoned?

Food is a 5/5 - The plantains are a great add to the bowl. Service 2/5 - Unfortunately isn't the best and the employees are not very informative. They charged me about $2 for a side of jalapeños when I asked for them on the side of my bowl. Ambiance/Interior - Vibes around the devils hour and dead in the night.

Vegetarian options: Finally, food with flavor, open late for vegetarians. The red salsa is the best because it's well balanced and it's spicy but not too hot. It's my favorite.

I'm absolutely shocked at how much I enjoyed my food here - I was expecting it to be mediocre college food but was very happily surprised to find out that this wasn't the case. This location is near Northeastern campus, so it's busy seemingly almost any time of day. We visited for a late-night dinner and were able to order almost immediately. Our server was nice but didn't seem to understand all of my questions - luckily I was able to get some correct answers from the cashier. Not sure if it was a language issue or if it was just too loud in the restaurant, but not a huge deal. I ordered a custom bowl with steak and it was absolutely delicious. The meat was fresh, tender, and well seasoned. The toppings complimented each other very well also -- I just wish they filled the bowl a bit more! I was able to try my partner's al pastor burrito and it was also incredibly good. The meat especially was the star of the show, and I couldn't get enough. I'm sad I'm only finding out about this place now.. I'll definitely be back soon!

I just went in to grab a burrito and while I was watching the staff prepare it, the person who was stationed by the guac/cheese area kept wiping her fingers on a dirty rag, then touching my burrito, even at one point accidentally wiping the burrito with the rag. She then wrapped the burrito up incorrectly and it exploded pretty bad. She broke the tortilla trying to re-wrap it (a lot of the burrito had been smushed out at this point) so another member of the staff had to come and see what she had done. She tried to grab a new tortilla to make a new burrito but the other staff member just re-wrapped the mushed burrito (which was gross at this point, also the rag action was pretty gross too), and handed it off to the cashier who looked at it in disgust. I was pretty shocked that they were still trying to sell it to me. I didn't want to cause any issues because there was a line building up so I just bought it. The cashier seemed surprised I bought it, but didn't say anything. The whole thing felt pretty unsanitary and I'm surprised they didn't ask me to get back in line to re-make it. I ended up throwing it out immediately because I don't want to eat something that's been touched by a kitchen rag and then kind of destroyed. I feel bad writing this because up until this point I really liked this place!! I also completely understand how busy the place can get but I feel like there was a better way to remedy the situation and remain sanitary.

I called the restaurant and a guy answered speaking in spanish. I asked if anyone spoke English he said no. lol all the reviews have comments where the restaurant staff are responding in English, yet no one speaks English. The menu is also in English, yet no one speaks English.... we're in the USA ,you're here to run a business , but not one of your staff speaks English ... I would order online but if they can't speak English they can't read in English either... I'll keep my money in my pocket ?

I used to love El Jefe's but this place has gone downhill :( it's always so busy with Northeastern kids and I don't think the employees are always ready for crazy volumes of people. They used to serve big portions, but now they only give you one tiny scoop of meat. Not worth paying $14 for just a big bowl of rice.

I got the breakfast special which was incredible value. Two 8" tortilla burritos (with generous filling) and home fries for $9. Tasty, and friendly staff. Plus, a whole rack of a variety of hot sauces to try with your meal. Will return if I am in Boston again.

Scrumptious Mexican food. Good spot for a late night dinner, the seating is small but the music is always a vibe! Lovely food and very good quantity as well!
