The food here is absolutely amazing and definitely worth the wait. Expect a wait time of 30 minutes to an hour due to its popularity, but it's well worth it. It's a pretty small place but can seat a lot. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Personally, I tried the Swing Pork Belly, Yo-In-Style Ramen Noodles, Beef and Enoki Cabbage Soup, and Black Fish Fillet with Szechuan Pickles. The Swing Pork Belly with its incredible garlic sauce and the Beef and Enoki Cabbage Soup with the perfect amount of spice and meat were standouts. If I could dine at Mountain House for every meal, I definitely would.

Extraordinary food, pleasant and sober atmosphere and decoration while preserving the style. The only detail is that there is no reservation and the wait is at least 45 minutes to 1 hour.

The food at Mountain House is Sichuan cuisine, so most of the dishes are spicy. But I think it's acceptable that it's not very spicy. Most of the meat dishes we ordered were pretty good, and I thought the Dumplings in chill oil were pretty good. I think it's suitable for a large crowd so you can order many dishes and try each dish. I think Mountain House's dishes should be eaten with rice. The service at Mountain House is good and the waiters are very patient but the queue time to wait for a seat is quite long. Mountain House's overall atmosphere is in ancient Chinese style, including the music, tableware, and dining tables. The overall decoration is very unified and harmonious. If you are gathering with friends, this place is a good choice.

I’ve been excited about this place since I tried their branch in NYC! The food was as good as I remembered and all the dishes were artistically pleasing. I really like the fried noodles. The service was quite good after we were seated but they currently don’t offer reservations so the wait time is usually long.

We've been to the Mountain House location in New York before so we were so excited when they opened one in Boston. We arrived with a group of 4 around 5pm on a weekend and were seated immediately. They start you off with a free dish of pickled vegetables. We love spice and all of the dishes here definitely pack on the heat. We ordered the stone pot green pepper fish, beef and enoki mushroom in sour cabbage soup, green spicy bass, and the fu-qi special. Everything tasted authentic and the servers were very attentive. We'll definitely come back again to try more of the menu!

I like the food from this restaurant. The food makes me feel like home! The environment is comfortable. The survice is good and I could find servers easily although sometimes they were busy and need longer time.

3.5 stars for the food but rounding up for how patient and professional the service was during a weekend lunch rush and how many requests we had! As other reviews have mentioned, the interior is beautifully decorated and your eyes will feast just as much as your mouth but with all that said, if you come during the busy times, you will have to wait ... and wait ... and wait. We came around 1 on a Saturday and was quoted a half hour wait, and then waited some more for a table, and then waited a bit longer for the food to come out (which it did more or less all at once). By the time the first course hit the table, I was about ready to start gnawing on my arm. Pros: - Complimentary tea (that comes on its own little burner, so the tea's kept warm throughout your meal - really appreciated that detail) and a tiny dish of cabbage in hot oil as a free appetizer to whet your appetite. - The stir fried string beans in garlic was my favorite dish - super crunchy with a great flavor. - Extensive menu, with dishes like rabbit and frog that I haven't really seen in other restaurants in this area. Cons: - Most of the dishes, like the fish and double fried pork, were extremely oily and salty. Good if you have a high sodium tolerance. Definitely order one or more bowls of rice; the food is best described as "xia fan," meaning you're downing lots of rice with it. - Parking: It sucks. Brighton Ave is impossible to parallel park unless you come during an off-hour. We found 2-hour metered parking spots on Malvern street next to 99 Ranch. Recommend coming at 2 or 3pm, particularly on the weekend.

Not for the weak spice tolerances. The queue was quite long as expected - we got there at 5:15p on a Saturday and still didn't get seated until around 6:10. They had everything ordered and paid online which was convenient. We ordered the swing pork belly (my favorite dish), green beans (lots of garlic and very yummy), ma la beef (super flavorful), szechuan cabbage and fish (hard to taste at this point with the ma la), and sautéed shredded potato. Overall a very spicy dinner that we had with a bowl of rice each to cool our tongues. Would probably be really good if you can handle some high ma la spice

I had high hopes for this restaurant after hearing great things, but sadly, my experience fell short. At first, I was ecstatic when we got seated so quickly. But, as time went on, I realized that Mountain House was not for me despite my love for Szechuan food. The service was the main letdown. Our server seemed inattentive throughout the meal, forgetting to refill our water, light our cold tea, and even overlooking some of our requests. We felt neglected, with no check-ins at all. Oddly, instead of refilling our glasses at the table, we were asked to reach over to the bar, which felt awkward. The server mostly interacted with us from a distance at the bar. Perhaps it was because we were seated at a table in the corner of the restaurant, but regardless, it was disappointing. We ordered the mapo tofu and mama hot fish, which were said to be the most popular dishes, along with the Szechuan double-fried pork and Szechuan fried noodles. A major drawback was the staggered serving of dishes, as they didn't arrive together. This disrupted the balance of the meal and made it exhausting to eat. Personally, the ma-ma hot fish didn't suit my taste. Despite ordering the black fish, the flavors of peppercorn and beansprouts seemed to mute the flavor of the fish itself. The mapo tofu was decent but not particularly exciting. While the tofu was cooked well, the broth felt a bit monotonous after a while. The Szechuan double-fried pork initially impressed with its flavorful taste and well-cooked pork. However, after a few bites, the dish became tiresome due to its heavy and oily nature. Adding vinegar or some acidic element could have balanced the dish better. On a brighter note, the Szechuan fried noodles were enjoyable. The tender beef and satisfying noodles made for a pleasant dish. While Szechuan cuisine is known for its oiliness, it may not appeal to everyone, including myself. I had hoped for at least one exceptional dish, but unfortunately, none stood out. I had high expectations for this place, and while it's possible I may have chosen the wrong dishes, I anticipated a more memorable experience.
