The way the Barista (and it seems manager or owner) here speaks to customers and employees is horrible! He was practically screaming at the cashier, who seemed new to the job, over nothing. When a customer was confused about the terminology on the menu, instead of just explaining what something meant, he was condescenting and rude, treating this person like an idiot because they didn't weren't an expert on coffee and just wanted to make sure they understood what they were ordering. Everything about the way he interacts with people reeks of condescension and a superiority complex.I also overheard him bragging to a customer he seemed to know about coming in to work with Covid even though he was still technically supposed to quarantine. On top of all of that, there was grime all over the walls and I saw two cockroaches! Clearly health and safety are not a priority here. The coffee wasn't even that good, certainly not worth the treatment or the unsanitary environment. I figured I'd give this place a chance despite the negative reviews because some people can be hard on food service workers, but in this case the reviews are absolutely deserved, and maybe even a little too forgiving. I don't need a smile or any overt kindness from restaurant workers, and I don't expect or agree with the attitude of "the customer is always right". All I need is for them to treat people like human beings and not be aggressive and mean to customers and employees who do nothing to provoke them. This guy needs to find a career that doesn't involve interacting with other people.

Great coffee. You have to get used to the sometimes finicky service.

The best coffee in the city without exaggeration. The baristas are welcoming and pleasant, they perform in a music band at Tres Gatos restaurant in Jamaica Plain. The owner, Max, is very respectful, polite, cultured and courteous. I reiterate about the coffee, it is awesome.

Major attitude from owner, which seams to be a common theme from many reviews I read. I accidentally left my car on while holding my 2 year old daughter. He found it necessary to tell me about my car with a major stink eye. Fast forward 3 customers later and he got yelled at by the cashier for using an Amex. She was quickly shut up when he left a $20 tip. Funny how money changes peoples arrogance! Definitely not going back.PS. Go next door and give them your business. Way nicer people!!

Real espresso, in every sense of the word. Nowhere else comes close to what is created at Cafe Fixe. They take the quality of their espresso and coffee seriously and are truly devoted to the craft. There are not many shops left like this on the world. I’d highly recommend a visit.

This is the place for top notch caffeine but not the place to sit for hours.

Always great jazz music playing and the atmosphere is excellent. Not many places to plug in your laptop…which is nice for a change! Conducive for conversation or reading.

Great little cafe. Beans from Barrington coffee, a solid roaster. Knowledgeable barista and great espresso machine (Mirage Veloce) & grinders. They had all of Scott Rao's books on the shelf and for sale (coffee geeks know this is a good sign).

The owner kept looking at me. I know I was upsetting him somehow but I couldn't stop laughing. That seemed to irk him even more.

The thing this place does best is coffee and tea. They care about making it well and it all tastes good. That’s very rare around here, unfortunately. But here, it’s good. That’s the focus. The vibe is nice, stools and light wood.
