My last review of Mary Chung was more than 8 years ago, so here is an update. It is now apparently pick up only since COVID, and I have ordered take outs from here a few times. The food is always decent at a reasonable price. It is old style Chinese, both the restaurant and the food. I wish some of the dishes could be less oily. I think I first came to Mary Chung 30 years ago, when there were not many Asian or Chinese restaurants in Cambridge. There was Yenching at Harvard square, which went downhill in the 2000s and closed a few years ago.

Still as good as it's ever been for more than the thirty years I've been going here. Unfortunately, they only are doing take out since COVID. My two favorites are Suan La Chow Show and Stuffed Eggplant.

I was in Cambridge visiting my family. My dad wanted some egg foo young which he hadn’t had for awhile. I tried a few restaurants before Mary Chung’s said they could make it. When I picked up my order, I was asked how I knew they had egg foo young since it’s not on the menu…also that their chef can make anything he’s that talented. Guess what? It was the best I’ve ever had and that’s saying a lot. I will definitely return.

Mary chungs is the best chinese food in Boston. They are not reopen for dining as it is only run by the couple themselves. Mary has been a staple to the cambridge community for over 30 years. Thank you for staying open!! If your in cambridge you have to stop by for take out.

Still the best, most flavorful Chinese food anywhere in the vicinity. Their sauces are sublime!!! Dumpling sauce, peanut sauce, duck sauce, everything. Good generals too. Thank you for so many years of consistent quality service.

It’s been 30 some Years since I’ve eaten here. So this is a nostalgia review. I now live on the west coast near Richmond BC where you can find Chinese food people travel from Hong Kong for. It’s that good. I’ve never found anything like the Soan la shoa choa and Dun dun noodles served at Mary’s. They were that good. Reviews suggest the recipes and preparation have been passed down. May the legacy continue. I hope that I will someday have the chance again.

Don't judge from the outside! Central Sq is now full of places for tech workers willing to pay 3x more but this mom n pop place has been serving poor college kids over 30y. So happy to return and learn the food is as good as I remembered. Peking ravioli, Dan Dan mien and of course the suan la chow show. The latter is cited in Wikipedia! Unfortunately only take out and outside seating is over by Tosci's.

I ordered a beef dish and soup. The soup had almost no flavor, mostly just hot water and the beef was chewy. The food just overall did not have very much flavor.

This review is solely just for the Suan La Chow Show. I have eaten at Mary Chung's multiple times in the past 2 years since moving to Boston, but last night I decided to try out the Suan LA Chow Show based on yelp reviews and word of mouth recommendations, and can I say oh my god...it was as if I had uncovered all that way holy....I have NEVER tasted something so amazing. HIGHLY recommend ALL the food here but ESPECIALLY the Suan La Chow Show!!!

Honestly, this is one of my favorite restaurants in the world. Or it was?Refusing dine-in service when pretty much every other single restaurant in the country has reopened is cheap and lazy. Perhaps they don't want to re-hire waitstaff? Quality isn't the same for takeout, and for me (I now only visit Boston occasionally - don't live here) basically makes it impossible to enjoy their food.

Currently only offering takeout, but it was delicious. We had suan la chow show , which are wontons in a spicy chili sauce, I think the heat in this could kill off any Covid infection, delicious. I have not had thus sauce anywhere else, I could drink it from a mug I so liked it. Yang Show fried rice, not greasy, spicey green beans and dry cooked sliced beef, all delicious dishes. Highly recommend this place.
