Ordered a beef dish, they made it with chicken, and insist that it's beef when I asked. Disgusting.

Truly amazing Chinese food, there's a reason Fresh is in the name. The Kung Pao chicken and string beans were my faves, the house noodles were great too.

We went in for an early Sunday dinner with a group of 5. The boiled szechuan fish fillets and garlic bok choi were two items I'd recommend. The staff was friendly and attentive and the overall decor was lovely.

Fine food, but on the saltier and more oily side of Chinese dishes I’ve had. We had beef scallion, crab rangoon, and a shrimp dish. There was a miscommunication where I wanted a mayo shrimp with broccoli and walnuts, and I just got some other shrimp dish. Not a big deal. Crab rangoon was my favorite, but it was also really basic and had pre-prepped taste instead of a made to order plating.Space is brightly lit and spacious. It’s a mom and pop shop. They gave complimentary nuts and tea. Had some beers to represent China.

Good food. Love the rice cakes. But the subway makes the floor shake and vibrate like there was an earthquake. A little bit disturbing! Overall, good restaurant.

Came by for dinner late at night and had a great meal! Super friendly and attentive service and the food was delicious. My favorites were the beef noodle soup, mapo tofu, and the eggplants. All super flavorful and everything was affordable / reasonably priced. Will definitely come back when in Cambridge.

Excellent shanghai cuisine. Staff is super friendly. Interior decor is very artsy and classy. The owner shows her collection of antiques in the room too.

As a Chinese from Zhejiang province, dining there is the best memory for me during my school days! Wish the best for the restaurant and hope you stick on your Shanghai style!

We went there in a rainy weekend night. It’s quiet, clean and cozy. Food came fast. We ordered sautéed bean curd sheet with mushrooms (way too salty for us), braised pork (tased better than it looked) and stir fried rice cake (the mustard green gave it a touch of freshness). All were on the salty side. But that could be because we prefer light dishes.

Party of 10: oct 2023It was a nice experience. Food was flavorful although the dumplings are simpler and lacked texture. Rice had to be ordered on the side just in case yall want some. Tofu dish was mushy and spicy and I thought it was okay. Veggies were oily. They have a cute little free book shore of Chinese books for children and adults. If you bring cash its a 10% discount.

Update: Wow, they hid the picture I uploaded! They don’t like a picture showing a BUG in their dish!PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE check out this review! Shanghai Fresh is SOOOOOO GOOD.I made a pick-up order for their Shanghai Eight Treasure Rice Pudding With Black Rice! And they added EXTRA PROTEIN in it — A GIANT BUG!!! They were so nice that the BUG WAS EVEN FRIED!!! I felt so sorry that I didn’t notice their thoughtful gift until I had eaten a portion of the dish. I was so glad that I didn’t even need to use my finger to force myself to throw up because the disgust itself was enough. And I was so grateful that it took only twice for me to throw up everything I ate. A BIG BIG THANK YOU for the unique experience.Yes, they refunded the money as they SHOULD! Who cares about emotional distress and burning throat, right?Definitely check out this place and find MORE BUGS in it!!!

Shanghai Fresh used to easily be my favorite Chinese restaurant in Cambridge. Unfortunately, it’s no longer the case. It’s still good, but with the change in cooks over the years, the preparation isn’t quite as strong, the food can be a bit salty, and the flavors aren’t as good.

The other day I ordered the chive dumpling dish. And when the dumpling was brought out, I instantly recognize they are the same as those frozen dumpling that is sold in any Chinatown supermarket (those $7 for a big bag). Come on, if I want to eat that, I can grab 10 bags from Chinatown, I don't need to come to your restaurant. This is cheating.
