The service was very good. The waitress was very quick and did not annoy the four of us with asking silly questions like "how is everything?

This place is clearly very popular because there was a queue outside the restaurant before it opened for 5:30 p.m. dinner service on a very rainy Saturday night. Once open, the restaurant quickly filled up with diners. Tables tend to be closer together because of how busy it gets, and there are a lot of hard surfaces, meaning things can get a little loud.Service was the right level of attentive: staff were very friendly and they were good about clearing plates and utensils when it’s clear diners are done eating. The daily fish specials are posted on a chalkboard inside.Overall, the food was very good. The buffalo brussel sprouts with whipped blue cheese were very good but for $18? Feels steep. My husband enjoyed his tuna, which was served like an elevated poke bowl and had Asian influences. I got the seared cut cod special, and enjoyed the sweet corn and mushroom risotto that came on the side: it was appropriately warm and cozy feeling for the rainy day, and brightened by the bursts of sweet freshness from the corn.

So, I didn't mean to go eat at the Port Hunter. I ended up there, hungry, and it was late, so there weren't a lot of options. Truth: I was totally bowled over by the prices, so I ordered gently, and HOLY BATS THE FOOD WAS SO GOOD!! Yeah, I'm still kind of floored by the concept of a $51 pork chop, and I can't really afford to go eat there again any time soon, but I would if I could cuz it was mind bendingly delicious. Now I know where I want to go next time I'm splurging. Might even save up for that pork chop cuz I'll bet it's great!

The yellowfin tuna dinner w/ jasmine rice & stirfry veggies was good. The tuna was cooked more rare. Almost like sushi grade. The chicken sandwich w/ bacon, aioli, lettuce, tomato & cheese was delicious! The aioli was so tasty. It came with French fries. The octopus dish was my favorite. Fresh seasonal tomatoes with pickled onions and the green sauce was to die for.

Service was good and the drinks were great. Appetizers were delicious. Had high hopes for the swordfish after enjoying the black bass ceviche, but it was very disappointing. The cut was very thin and thoroughly overdone and dry. I've never had sich a thin piece of fish for $50. I would have rated lower but others (who didn't get the swordfish) enjoyed their food.

While the Vineyard has a much shorter history of slavery than the rest of the United States, abolishing it 1776, Port Hunter celebrates this short history. The largest and proudest painting in this establishment is centered by a display of a black man slaving on Martha’s Vineyard pastures. Truly a disgrace to any patron, traveler, or American enjoying their time on the vineyard. SMH!!

Stood in que for over 1 hour. To be told we can not get in with our official British Driving Licences. Both of us in our late 30’s. Staff so rude, unhelpful and refused to bring manager to see us despite repeated polite requests.

In all the years it's been here tonight is the first time I've ever eaten there. Drinks yes, but never dinner. Was it worth the wait? Well....the oysters were great but that's the oyster. Great local katama bay beauties. The tuna tartare was not like any I've had before but was great. , well the first order. We shared the whole local black bass. Literally every bite I took I had a mouth full of bones. I couldn't eat it so I ordered a second tuna tartare. The rice was less crispy and the portion a bit smaller than the first order. The bill...$200. over priced. That's for two cocktails, six oysters, two apps, and one entrée.

My husband and I have been going to the Port Hunter since they opened. We look forward to our visit every summer however this year we were very disappointed. The service was fine but our food was not. We ordered two entrees , the ahi tuna and halibut. The quality of the fish itself was very good but the preparation was boring and my halibut entree was served lukewarm. When you pay $50 for an entree it should be exceptional. Sadly these were not. We were told there is a new chef this year.

Food: menu is ordinary, nothing really stood out for me. It feels like a combination of American food mixed in some seafood because why not, they are after all in MV, but have to add on something exotic like an elote. I did end up getting an elote because, like I said, the most exotic thing on the menu. Glad I ordered them because the flavors were phenomenal. For my main menu, I just got a tuna tartare on top of crispy rice with ponzu sauce. Kind of disappointing...the crispy rice was not crispy at all. It was more like seared rice. I like the crunch factor and it missed miserably. Overall, the tuna tartare was ok. This was an appetizer that I turned into a main course because nothing on the menu really screamed out to me "try me!!!" Oh I forgot, we ordered the focaccia bread...it looked like crostini bread. I was expecting something else. It was blah, nothing exciting about it. My fiancé ordered the burger and it looked decent. It sure filled him up. Would we come back here...we tried it once and I think once is enough. The ambiance was great though. If they have happy hour, then sure maybe this would be a good place to meet up with friends or coworkers for drinks and appz. Service: our server was friendly and there were multiple servers that helped out with moving the dishes. There was a consistent attention to every table, which I appreciate. It shows team work.

Been going here for years. Summer 2023 is not their best season. It’s awkward, at best.Do not bring people with food allergies here. Our celiac dinner guests called ahead and were assured there’s many options. Unfortunately, the small footprint kitchen means there’s high cross contamination for non-raw bar food. A $31 burger on a GF bun with no GF friendly side is borderline criminal. It’s not even a balanced meal. The “no substitutions” mentality should not apply to people with legitimate medical needs.Timing of meal delivery was so-so for a group of 8. We had to wait for some time to have all plates on the table.Waitress was more of a Toast POS ambassador than an actual customer service representative. She was very linear and would only take orders in a specific clockwise fashion. She didn’t prompt for refills until the entire table was empty. It was… odd. After two rounds, we stopped trying to order more drinks. At $100+ head, it’s probably our last time coming here. Our memories are better than this season’s attempt. Maybe it’ll recover next year.Dietary restrictions: Very poor selection of options for celiac guests. No attempts made to help provide a balanced meal. High level of cross contamination.
