The sushi was delicious and they were very respectful of my food allergies. Not pictured but we also got the eel rice plate and the chicken udon, which we all enjoyed! Servings were very generous and all the employees were friendly and accommodating.

This was some of the best sushi I’ve had! The fish for the nigiri sushi was very fresh and tasty. The couple running the show are very nice and it seems that all the dishes are made with the utmost care and attention. Will definitely go again!

Dined here on a Sunday night around 7pm. Two other families wrapped up before our food came and nobody else entered the restaurant after that, so we were the only ones sitting there for the majority of the time. The place has a cozy atmosphere with Japanese language books in the entrance and lots of traditional paintings, although admittedly it felt pretty dead for a weekend night (this seemed to be an issue with the entire block, which are the furthest businesses west before the I-90 entrance/exit ramps). There were dirty dishes and receipts on the tables when we entered, but the restaurant was highly understaffed (only one guy working there) so this can be excused. The food took a while because of this but it was excellent, with medium-large portions and pricing in line with other Japanese restaurants in the area. Would definitely come back on a Fri/Sat night, and wish there were more employees!Parking: There are a few spots directly in front of the restaurant, although they are shared with the other businesses on the same block. If those spots are occupied (and this hasn't been an issue so far), there is plenty of parking nearby.

Ito is the very best. He is so kind, funny and takes great pride in his work. The sushi is always fresh and his prices are very reasonable. His presentation is wonderful. Don’t miss this experience.

I graduated from Newton North in 1996. Now I am back in Tokyo. Shogun serves real Sushi and I enjoyed time to time. It’s not a fake SUSHI.

First time eating at Shogun, and the place was totally empty except for one other table with 2 young men. My friend and I ordered the fried chicken as an appetizer, and the nabeyaki udon. 30 minutes go by; no food. Another party arrives and is seated next to us. We receive our small plate of dried up fried chicken when they walk in. The chicken was cold, chewy and tasteless. It arrived on a plate with no garnish, no trimming, nothing, Just a plate with a few pieces of chicken thrown on it. Another 10 minutes go by- and the other party receives their udon. All 4 of them. We walk over to the man at the sushi counter at this time, and inquire where our food is. He says abruptly that it will be "out in a minute". Another 10 minutes go by, and he finally carries over two bowls of udon. The udon is a mess. The shrimp tempura, which is supposed to be crispy and hot, is soggy, disgusting and withered up into an indistinguishable piece. The udon noodles are also soggy, and inedible. We are both Asian, and this is by far the worst udon I have ever seen. We try to eat the udon, but it's impossible- the udon is not edible at all. We call over the man at the sushi counter and explain to him that the soup is cold and soggy, the noodles are not edible. We expect him to offer to replace the soups; instead, he does something unimaginable - he yells at us to "go home"! No discussion or explanation, no attempt to replace the dishes. We leave without eating the soup, now having to find another dinner option after wasting an hour at this dump. Outrageous experience at a restaurant that has been long-standing in the Newton community, and a total disappointment to be treated this way. Avoid it unless you want rude service, cold food and long wait times. There are much better Japanese restaurants in the area.

Tasty beef soup (Sukiyaki). Very friendly owners. The interior may benefit from some professional designers.Kid-friendliness: Brightly lit, has children books and some cartoon running on one of the TVs.

We really like this place. It’s very low-key, chill, but the service was really friendly and helpful. The sushi and salads were very good, but the best part was tasty options for the vegetarian in our party. She combined a couple of items. Presentation of the sashimi was beautiful and the tuna roll wrapped with cucumber was huge. A charming, quiet Japanese restaurant. Not fancy or super-stylish. We have been here many times and I always enjoy it.

Seems like a nice family place but unfortunately the sushi is not well made. Rice is too wet and it was not well formed, lacked any flavor.

Sushi tasted fresh and was pretty good, but wasn't made very well. There was too much rice and not rolled well, so that was a bit disappointing. The staff were very friendly and there's a cool atmosphere inside!
