Best school around to learn a trade

Tamari Campbell Toledo

The adults education director Lorena Turner. Berated me in front of my whole classes and kick me out for having questions about the room size and her not wearing her mask this passed Tuesday. I heard her speaking to another person making racist comments and when. I went to apologize to she yelled at me and threaten to call the cops because I had questions. And because she wear masks that don’t fit her well and and so they keep sliding down her face. We are in the middle of a pandemic I have the right to feel safe in my class room environment. I will be filing a law suit and contacting the local news and tv channels.

I just went today and found it to be a very unique experience with low prices on delicious food. Truly a hidden gem. At this restaurant, which has been open since 1977, students do everything from designing the menus to prepping the food itself, to ordering food from suppliers, and more generally keeping everything running. They rotate roles to learn the trade. I had the steak sandwich and the clam chowder and my total bill was under $9. I'd recommend checking their website and calendar and going as soon as they open at 10:45am. Bring cash. The website says "Seating in the dining room is currently not available" but we were able to sit when we arrived so I guess their policy changed.

Graduated in 1962. The school curriculum has changed dramatically since the I was there. As Secretary of the Smith Vocational High School Alumni Association, I have had the opportunity to work with staff who have great visions for the schools future. Their input and assistance in maintaining a school alumni association to represent past graduates. Thank you to, Mr. Linkehoker, Superintendent, Michael Cahillane, chairmen of the Board of trustees Mr Bianca, Principal and Mrs .Carver, administrative Secretary, Mr. Lacey Culinary Arts, Walker Boyd Graphics, Jeff Lareau, Athletic Department for your assistance in planning the Annual Alumni Banquet for the year.

Very happy with old Smith Voc! Majored in Plumbing shop, those teachers are the best! The academic education is very good especially for a tech school. The vocational and tech skills are very useful and teach work ethic through co-op apprenticeships, campus work, habitat-for-humanity work, etc. College is valuable, but it isn’t necessarily for everyone nor does it lead to a career in today’s economy. Trade skills are the way to go and America needs to stop shaming people for

The Oliver Smith Restaurant at Smith Vocational and Agricultural High School is a hidden gem. The restaurant is part of the school's culinary program and offers great traditional food at very reasonable prices. They sometimes use meat from animals raised in the agricultural program, giving it serious "farm-to-table" street cred. The student servers are always very courteous and the Smith Voc staff who supervise them are phenomenal. Some days they have a buffet, other days they have table service. For the rest of the 2013-2014 school year they will have a buffet. They are open Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays and they more or less follow the Northampton school calendar, so when in doubt, call. If you have dietary restrictions this place might not be for you, especially on buffet days, as few ingredients are listed. They have a child seat, so I can easily bring my youngest child, but last I checked there wasn't a changing table. They used to post their menu now and then online, and I hope that they will again when they open in fall 2014. If you're unsure if they are open on a particular day, just call. Their hours are restrictive, they are only open from 10:45 am - 12:15 pm, so plan accordingly. Find a time to go and try it, unless you have crazy-high expectations, you won't be disappointed.
