This hotel is beautifully designed, the rooms are spacious and comfortable, and I had a great meal in restaurant. Downtown Pittsfield has some great places to explore.

The dinner menu here is interesting, thoughtfully prepared and presented, and very tasty. We've enjoyed everything we had here from mixed drinks to main courses to dessert. It's difficult to avoid spending over $100 on a meal for two, but for us the food is generally worth the price and certainly a cut above many other eateries in Pittsfield. The service, unfortunately, does not rise to the same level of professionalism as the cuisine. As far as we can tell this is a training and staffing issue that is tragically common in the Berkshires. Our latest visit was so frustrating I tried to gently coach our server, who was clearly not familiar or experienced with waiting tables or food -- let alone this restaurant's menu -- but the coaching was of little use. Despite there being only a handful of folks in the restaurant and two servers, diners sat around waiting a for their water, waiting to order, waiting for their meals and checks...all for a painfully long time. Our drinks never appeared (I had to fetch them from the bar myself, where they had been sitting for some fifteen minutes), our main course arrived lukewarm, our water glasses remained perpetually empty (until I again went to the bar to have them refilled myself), and no one ever checked on us...not even once.It was an unusually bad experience. So do go for the excellent food. That is terrifically worth it. But prepare to be extra patient with untrained staff who seem to hide out-of-sight most of the time and who really don't understand the basics of customer service. If the service were even vaguely competent at Hotel on North, this would be a five-star review. Again, though, perhaps they can't be faulted for a persisting lack of workers in the Berkshire hospitality industry.

Everything was just great... the large room with high ceilings, excellent beds, friendly service, nice restaurant and other cozy lounging spots with comfy furniture... The location is also good, on the main street in an historic Berkshires town. I'd go back in a heartbeat.

Love this hotel! So unique.

The restaurant, under the current management is very disappointing. The extremely brightly lit dining room provides the ambiance of an airport waiting area. My burger was not done to order, was tasteless and the fires were not seasoned at all. My husband’s fish taco was equally tasteless with a lack of any seasoning and the flour tortillas crumbled when picked up. Salt and vinegar fries were not salted or vinegary. We are local and would love to see a great dining experience in this space.

We were overnight hotel guests at the adjacent Hotel on North. The hotel previously owned and operated the restaurant but when the restaurant re-opened after the height of the pandemic, it opened under a new name and management. The restaurant owners and managers operate at least one other property, and definitely know what they're doing, but I suspect finer dining in downtown Pittsfield remains a challenge, especially mid-winter during what is hopefully the tail end of the pandemic. The restaurant was only 20% full early this evening, but we all arrived about the same time and as a result caught them slightly short-staffed. Anyway, it all worked out because we weren't in a hurry, and because the staff was so friendly. The food was inspiring, well prepared, and delicious. We shared a charcuterie platter to start, my daughter enjoyed a vegetarian hash while I enjoyed the magnificent pork chop, and we finished with a shared dessert that seemed to be prepared in-house. My only complaint was with my cocktail. For a restaurant with a nicely curated cocktail menu, the drink was poorly prepared. Crushed ice and even worse, grenadine syrup, have no place in a Manhattan (on the rocks). Even worse, with no warning until I paid the bill, my Manhattan, which I ordered with Knob Creek spirit, cost $22, including $10 for the Knob Creek surcharge. I've had my share of Manhattans in expensive cities (i.e. London, New York, Boston, San Francisco, etc.) and have never encountered a ten dollar surcharge before. The rest of my life, at least for a while, I'll be able to claim the most expensive cocktail I ever enjoyed was right here in Pittsfield. OK, so the Manhattan incident didn't even come close to ruining what was otherwise a great meal and experience. Berkshire Palate is highly recommended, and it's likely that I'll return.

Welp...the first time that we stayed here we dug it. My dad slept like a baby. We had a great time checking out every floor, and felt invited and valuable. (All times staying here during Covid, btw). When we arrived there were dog dishes to meet us as well as a hotelier who was knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the actual hotel and its history and also it's guests. It was comfortable and welcoming and the refrigerator worked. The last two times Shawn (Sean) has all but ruined the magic. Considering the cash, we truly could have stayed at Best Western (pet friendly) and gone for an extravagant dinner or we could have tried the Black Swan. Talk about the most bare minimum- guess Sean must be getting minimum wage and working on software coding while on the clock because he/they can't be bothered for s**** Last time Sean said there were no refrigerators in the rooms (this summer) but there were/are, and this time (and last) refrigerators don't work. (no engineers- that or Shawn can't be bothered to call). Is there a tub or shower? Don't expect the correct answer for your room. They've changed the artwork and some room amenities and the lackluster hospitality is making this DIY hotel lose luster rapidly. Don't expect anyone to know anything, do anything, have anything and don't expect anyone to have cleaned the floors EVER ( just take a look under bed sometime). (Yes hardwood can and should be cleaned-especially during a pandemic!!) Every last thing you can think of is an extra charge, or just *up to you to figure out and/or do or buy or find... and honestly from the neighborhood to the staff (Sean) I'm not even interested in trying the restaurant or coming back. We travel here at least half a dozen times a year and this will be the last at this establishment. (sigh) So avoidable!! Aggravating as we wanted a regular place to stay. Also, pets only welcome in a few rooms that n second floor- that's it. Extremely limited.

Bad experience! They did not have a room for us after we confirmed for my sons wedding.

Some other reviewers have said, "Pittsfield is not where you really want to stay when you're in The Berkshires." I have lived in Southern Berkshire County for 23 years, so I know the truth of that. However, if you do have to stay in Pittsfield as I just did you can do no better than Hotel on North. It's funky, unique, and you're in the center of...umm...everything? Ok, while Pittsfield may not have the elegance of other Berkshire locations it does make up for it in...umm...urban funk. Sure, you'll see some unsavory types in the area, and some storefronts are closed, but there are moments of beauty if you intentionally direct your gaze and squint a bit. Hotel on North is one of those. My husband and our two pups just spent the night in the Library Suite. It's a big, bright, high-ceilinged room with much going for it. Large windows, wall-to-wall bookcases, a large bathroom with a walk-in shower, clawfoot tub, and water closet help make for a gracious home away from home. Yes, but t could all use an update, but...umm...Pittsfield. We even hosted an intimate cocktail party and had a comfortable, relaxed time doing so in the Library Suite. Finally, the staff was efficient, and the bed was comfortable and well outfitted. The four of us slept well. With so much going for it, there are a few pet peeves that I would like to share to help those considering a stay to plan accordingly. - While there are power outlets everywhere in the suite, there isn't a single USB outlet to be found. Bring a brick with you to charge your devices. - While there's a hand shower at the tub, there isn't one in the gigantic shower. I'm sorry, but rainforest heads do not lead to a clean undercarriage. Consider installing a hand shower for guests who want a full-body cleaning. - The lighting is odd. The bookcases light up throughout which is lovely as ambient lighting. (Sadly, during our stay one entire bookcase wall was completely out and I notified the hotel to alert engineering.) The overhead light has no dimmer. The switches control strange lights. That said, with tenacity, we managed to create an appropriate lighting scheme for the evening. - The kitchenette...oh, the kitchenette. It has the potential to be a small gem as, although small, it is the size of many a NYC kitchen. However, it is outfitted with two dorm refrigerators, a microwave, coffee maker, and a bar sink with a faucet that is way to large to use without splashing. There's not a utensil, sponge, dishwashing liquid, or plate. So, be sure to bring your own if you're planning on eating in the suite with anything other than your hands. This is all an easy fix for the hotel. All in all, it was a perfect evening in...umm...Pittsfield. If you want to make your stay in Pittsfield a lot less pitsy , Hotel on North is the place for you.

Pros: spacious rooms and bathrooms! If you have kids, you can easily fit a stroller and crib. If you're traveling with anyone who is wheelchair bound, the wheelchair can easily move around in the bathroom!Love the aesthetic of the building and the rooms! There's ample, free parking behind the hotel. Cons: they're short on staff so our room wasn't ready until after 3PM. While the bed is comfortable the pillows were the absolute worst!! I ended up sleeping without a pillow!

While the neighborhood is a bit odd the hotel is lovely. Our room is beautiful and well appointed. The hotel is clean and beautiful and the staff lovely. Sorry we missed the restaurant which was closed due to COVID but with the rest of our experience, I imagine the restaurant would be fabulous too. Five stars.

By far THE BEST HOTEL IVE STAYED AT. If you really don't care for a pool and care more about the amenities and relaxing, this is one for the books. The rooms are AMAZING! The bathrooms stylish! The neighbor is pretty dead due to COVID but some signature places to eat walking distance. We stay here for business and it's perfect for that.

Gorgeous hotel and impeccably clean. Would definitely stay here again and look forward to returning when the restaurant opens again.
