Meat prices are insane, fish prices are acceptable

If you have never shopped in an Asian grocery store you are missing out on a truly life changing experience. The fresh produce, meat and seafood areas are so much better than our standard western stores. You must go.

Of course, H Mart made the same generic response. H Marts in NYC, NJ, Burlington, Cambridge etc... are good. This Quincy location? Not so much. On grand opening day, the place was packed, as expected, due to the high Asian demographics in Quincy, Randolph, Braintree, Dorchester... Everything was stocked to the brim as it should. Being overstaffed is always a good play on opening day. They were even handing out calendars and H Mart branded shopping bags as gifts. That was exciting and great. Now, the place is often empty compared to the other Asian markets in town. Why is that? Obviously, the price has a lot to do with it. You could get the exact commonly brought items at the two supermarkets up the street for a buck or 2 or sometimes even more off. From the average shopper's pov and untrained eye, yes, the place does seemingly look clean, bright, spacious and even organized " yay, finally a first for Asian markets, ohh I'm so excited, there's more Korean snacks too" But jumping too far ahead by calling H Mart the Wegmans or Whole Foods of Asian markets is laughable, even in regards to their other good locales. First off, they're not organic nor are they health centric. They sure as hell is nowhere near as curated in their offerings, staff product knowledge and quality management. Stocking a ton of varieties of stuff on the shelf in a neat and organized manner is one easy way to attract and should be standard for all supermarkets. But being able to upkeep your products, especially your perishables, is absolutely paramount and vital, and that's where H Mart Quincy lacks. Quincy has 99 Ranch, Good Fortune, C Mart and Kam Man, all are NY origins, yet all have their own degree of mishandling issues from their MA locales. From rampant freezer burns, to expired dry goods that are often found throughout their stores. So often, that as you are reading this, you can go and easily find for yourself an expired dry item now at Kam Man. Like let's be honest here, how often does the average person look at vague expiration dates on dry goods? One time is enough for me to always look. If you look a little deeper, you'll find some are even years past their due date lmao! Back to H Mart Quincy, unlike the other old timers mentioned, H Mart's overstocked in dry and frozen goods is not the issue here, not yet, as they are only a couple of years old as of this writing, and some dry goods still have a while to go before anyone like me even take notice. I got some little neck clams there once. You cannot tell off-the-back how fresh or not they are, because the staff picks the clams for you. Once it's being cleaned and cooked, I could immediately tell by the strong pungent smell this is spoiled shellfish waiting for someone with a weak immunity to wreak havoc on. I immediately trashed everything; others may obliviously continue eating, thinking nothing more of it than extra flavor flavor y'all. Fresh little necks should have no fishy smell whatsoever, but a nice clean, sweet, fresh sea taste. I went the third and last time recently for some prepared Korean side dishes. This is where H Mart Quincy also needs to pay close attention to. Unlike their Cambridge or Burlington locations, the Quincy store does not have individual food vendors or bake shop or where people can eat. They make their own prepared foods for take home only. Obvious where they get the ingredients from and it's obvious, they are not selling them enough to keep fresh produce and inventory moving in a safe and timely fashion. Instead, they are restocking them for next day or days after. I highly doubt anybody is keeping proper track or logs of food temps and rotation. You could tell when the staff doesn't even know what 95% of their product is when asked. You should be able to tell spoiled Korean prepared foods by the unusual sliminess that accumulates on the bottom or coating, depends on the item. That's called gradual food decomposition, not part of some creamy rich glaze that your mind might be tricked t

A lot roomier than their Burlington location, better produce and fresh seafood selections as well(really great service at the fish dept) Their weekly loss leaders aren't the best priced but the good shopping experience make up for it. No food court at the premises like other locations however.

If you love Asian food but don't want to dine out, H-Mart is the place to go for all your Asian food shopping needs. Wide fresh selection of Meats, fish and Sushi. Just like your local Shaws or Stop and Shop but Asian style. Aisles of assorted Ramen and fresh asian fruits and veg.

Great prices, great location, and clean store. I score myself some amazing deals many times. Everytime I shop here, I must go to the cooked food section. Their food is so delicious. I also find the spin-the-wheel after shopping at least $50 amusing. The bathroom location is quite strange, but I don't need to go often.

So clean, bright, spacious - this new (1.5 year old) H-Mart is terrific! The "Whole Foods" of asian markets and a welcome addition to this area. It has just about the biggest seafood counter that I have seen within a retail store environment. Extensive meats, veggies and fruits, too. And the prepared foods, banchans, kimbaps, kimchees, oh my! So much to choose from! Can't say enough about this place except to visit it and browse, shop, and gnosh your way to heaven.
